I found this cartoon in an old 1975 UK Moth yearbook. Little did they know this wasn't too far from the future truth.

Building Shesha, a Hunter Valley GIS, Australia
If someone reminds me I'll check with Duck Flat how they found the Top Lac. They were big fans of the Brightside (as was I). So their comparison in a commercial environment is always interesting.

I'm reminding you Mik. Just wondering if they are staying with Toplac or have switched to something else?

international Toplac replacing Brightside
Hi Bruce,
This is the reply from Pat Reece at Duck Flat said about Toplac in the commercial environment.
.... Hey Mike,
Yeah sure have, been using the Toplac for around 18 months. When it first came out my rep gave me the ol' 'its easier to use, glossier than Brightside, harder finish blah blah' but it is. Its a little trickier to use than the Brightside with a roller, bit harder to get the bubbles out but once you get the feel its no probs at all. It gives a flatter, glossier finish as well. Use it straight out the can with the Pal/Gem rollers or thin around 20% when spraying and you'll get a top job. Hope this helps some!

Well, that's a pretty big rapp for the product then! It's always interesting to get a professional perspective on a product. I did get bubbles as well, but you get them from foam rollers. They were soon smashed out when tipping off though. It's been a few weeks since the paint was applied to Max Headroom and its very hard now, even the couple of runs hardly show a fingernail indentation. Can't fault the gloss either.
Thanks Mik.

Ducks don't tip off the single pot paints. They work out the roller to spread the paint further and after doing this with the first roller load the bubbles are gone for the rest of the job.
They are minimising the time of course and their boats do turn out close to sprayed finish.

I know that the Brightside ... it seemed that the million bubbles would be a big problem .. but you just kept rolling out the first roller load on a bigger and bigger area and the bubbles would suddenly disappeared when the paint got to a certain thinness of application.
At Ducks they get a lot of practice. By the time you've done two undercoats and two topcoats on a 40 footer you have your paint technique well sorted.

Looks like Hakuna Matata will soon be gracing the waters of Rose Bay in Sydney, so she'll be within sailing distance of Goat Island.
