    Default Got me

Yep this thread got me hooked with the title....

I had a mate who was the clever type... "Til" - who designed and made a cnc painting machine, and used it to paint the range of timber body fishing lures he manufactured in his back shed with the CNC pantograph he designed and built to make the timber bodies for the lures...

His Japanese fishing client on a Barra fishing trip to the NT one day, referred to him as Mr Til (Or Til San) and thus was born "Tilsan Lures"

Tilsan Lures they used to be called (Before he sold up and WA Based Lure Company Halco bought him out lock stock and both barrels - the pantograph and the painting machine).

So I opened this thread expecting to see some kinda machine that paints things!

Come in sucker - this one got me hooked as well as a Tilsan Timber Lure!.

Or to be more technical the Zinc Phosphate High Build Metal Shield primer..

Thanks I was curious as I had just ordered some paint that I have not used before, Ray has but it was some time ago, and I was looking for an impression of how it went on. not to worry as I went for the Dulux Duremax GPE Zinc Phosphate Epoxy Primer, and the same again as a high build coat but without the zinc.

That can be done quite easily.... I can get them printed out by a signwriter I know that has a whopping big inkjet printer...

...in that case, how about Hello Kitty with flowers - you could make it Hello Kitty themed! (my machine purrs like a cat....)

I have modified my methods with my painting regime...

Now I just remove the outer layers of paint that come off easy and as I am now better at using bog I smooth it over the casting and it fills in the gaps left by the chipped paint...

    Then prime straight over that...

Bed is primed at the moment, throw a top coat on it tomorrow...

That will be the end of all the biggest bits to paint...

The small bits will probably end up being as PITA to do, but will get them done...

At least once the bed is painted I can get onto more enjoyable things like scraping in the tailstock...

I was just thinking of the irony of what you posted...

On ebay you often see freshly painted machines that have had fair to good paint jobs done on them but the machine is just rooted as the important bits like ways, feed screws and bearings are just plain worn out...

While mine will end up with a poor paint job, but the bed has been reground, the ways scraped and the feed screws and bearing replaced where needed.

And if it was to be sold, probably end up worth less then the clapped out machines with the excellent paint....

If that was so, I would say that it is time to reevaluate the decision making process. I think you have the priorities the right way around.
