A few recent bolt actions
Here's a few recent pens I've finished...
Pic 1, left to right
Box Burl, Red Mallee Burl, Buloke, Sheoak, Blackheart Sassy (x2)
Pic 2, left to right
Dot Ebony, Mackay Cedar, River Red Gum (x2), Liquid Amber seed pods in resin
The white lines in one of the River Red Gum ones is from dust in the cracks. I wiped with acetone and hit it with HP air but when the lathe was spinning it came out under the finish
I had a visit from Neil (Dai Sensai) a month or so ago and he gave me a casting demonstration. He cast the Liquid Amber seed pods and did some worthless wood blanks as well. I did one of the worthless wood blanks on a white tube which showed through more than I liked. I painted the tube black on this one and it came up much nicer

Corbs,
There before us are so many examples of your careful, well executed pens using quite a variety of blanks that I find very satisfying and a worthy display.
Thank you for showing and making so well.
Kind regards Peter.Nil Desperandum

I probably would have used yellow on that seed pod blank, ie the same as the primary blank colour, but the black tube gives the blank a 3rd colour and looks good . I was thinking of casting some more myself today, with red and black , also thinking of sanding the pods down to cubes first though so they sit closer together.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Neil, I only had black or white nail polish but I will keep an eye out for some other colours to experiment with (particularly yellow)It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Corbs are they the PSI Bolts or the Chinese imitations ? It is really hard to tell the difference just on looks ?

Ian,
These are from Timberbits. I've made both brands and side by side can't tell them apart but the PSI ones are machined better inside giving a slightly smoother operation.
