    Hi,

Selling my Waldown Vice. It's on epay but if your interested let me know.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Waldown-D...-/321350523617

The welding and milling of the weld isn't the best but it was the best we could do.

    Ben.

Slotter and jig borer.... Been chatting to the seller on a different matter and he seems a decent person.... He is just not into the internet/technological side of things, hence someone else put them on ebay for him...

Slotter is almost the same model as mine so if it's in good shape, it's a useful machine.

Hi RC, I thought you already had a slotter? But if you wanted another slotter, why not get a mill with it...

Here's a dual head BP, mill/slotter, that's probably going to go for some stupid price... http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0002-...win-head-350mm

Dumb question: Do slotters normally have a rotary table feed?

    Default Watch out

Watch out with that grays auction. On a few of the items I looked at the buyers premium is a massive 20% + GST works out to 32% on top of the bid price...

    Cheers

A lot of them do. Not all as I've seen one without.

Mine has powered feed to the RT but I'm not sure what use it is as there is no gearing that would enable say a fixed set of indexing degrees for splines etc. Could nibble out a bigger bore diameter I guess.

You really have to wonder what our school system is producing.

I already have a slotter, it does what I ask of it... I have read those bridgeport slotters are a bit weak.... Good for what they are designed for, but small cuts are the order of the day...

That Macson slotter looks pretty good, from a photo, it is old though, although slotting technology probably has not changed much...

Yeap. A large Butler(?) slotter I saw at a Grays auction was used to do just that to some bearings from the hot rolling mill at BHP Hastings after they had beeen built up with weld. Well at least thats what the guy there told me. Just why you would use a slotter for that and not a lathe I have no idea.

We went round and round with this one last year. The price has come down tho. Wonder why? Location, location. Covered in bulldust. I wonder if there is anyone close by that could inspect it?

I don't think school had much to do with it.
Being illiterate isn't a crime I guess, but being too lazy to run a rag over that lathe almost is.

The B/port slotting heads are pretty light duty and limited stroke. That Macson is the same as mine and I can say from personal experience that sinking a 10mm wide keyway through 4" of cast iron for a 4 sheave pulley is effortless. That and mine has been buggered with so it doesn't have multiple drive speeds as it should.

As for why you'd use one to enlarge a bore instead of a lathe - same reason they invented vertical turret lathes and vertical boring machines. Gravity is then your friend instead of a heartless bitch.
