I'm not certain Ben, but I think that Herless might have made stuff in Australia, years ago, but as time went on they rebadged more and more of their tools which came in from overseas. Even McPhersons imported lots of their material, even though they had much of it made here.
Two good looking finds there and I'd say that the final selling prices will be well North of the present prices.

Not a snows flakes chance in hell that machine was made here. He's reading the frontplate on the head stock. It has Herless printed on the front label. It wont say made in Australia, it just has their address.
4th picture has a manufactured date of Nov 1982. No one was making manual lathes here by then.
It looks to be of better quality, so I'm guessing Taiwanese. Herless never made anything there, Herless came from Herb Lester, a one generation company, until H&F bought him out, I dont have much regard for the bloke.

Useful lathe
This is currently on Gumtree in SA:

Price is OK given it's all there.
Paramounts had one last year in tatty condition for about $900.
Very cool machine.
The motor on these is only 1/8 HP.

I did consider buying one of these in the 1980s for small prototyping work, and still have the brochure - see attached quick photos, which include the pricelist.
However, the Unimac did not suit the way I worked, leaving mill or lathe setups untouched while I worked on the other machine. It's incredibly versatile, but constant switching from mill to lathe mode would have been impossibly frustrating and unacceptably time consuming. OTOH it does appeal as a benchtop HB, or for awkward jobs.
Cheers,
Bill

For lovers of Precision.
A very nice cylindrical square on American eBay, listing is almost over, but as yet no takers and at the price probably no takers for a while. A nice piece of kit none the less.

Interesting Cylinder Square
Ropetangler
A very interesting Cylinder Square.
Although I have 4 Hardened & Ground Cylinder Squares they are conventional that is square either end.
This Brown & sharpe is an interesting one with the angle on one end, never seen or heard of this design, however it would be a very handy piece of equipment to own.
A little bit on the expensive side !
regards
Bruce
