Not picking on R.C or Auskart, they were just in the past page. I'm set at 40 posts per page. Can I open the discussion? If we are openly going to blab about auctions. Can we atleast drop a direct link to the aforementioned auction. Its allready been "outed". I fail to see after that why its not easy to find after that.

Once again, not picking on anyone, but because they were last page (40) examples.

    I spent 15 minutes the other day searching Ebay for Jones & Shipman, Jone's and Shipman, John's & Shipman, J & S 520 etc.

Tonight I get an email from MichaelG, saying he's bought it, and the friggen thing was on Gum Tree. I never go there. Thats 15 minutes of my life, I'd like to get back. That could have just as easily been on Greys. But with out saying? If we mention it here, why are we making it hard to find? Thats just being a little bit pregnant.

Like wise with Auskart. (Once again no offence intended). I pumped "offcuts" into Ebay. I got 800 hits, for leather, clothe, ceramic tiles, pvc pipe etc. I can only guess you meant metal offcuts, but I'll be stuffed if i can find those 5 sellers you mentioned.

Is there any chance, once we drop a hint, thats its not so hard to find?

    Regards Phil.

Well said Phil. I agree that it is rather annoying.

With regard to the FP1, I had a look at it on thursday and spoke with the owner, of German origin. The mill was purchased new in 1970 and was only used by his brother, They had the much older FP1 which was the workhorse. in my many years of mucking around with machinery I can honestly say that this FP1 was what can only be described as a once in a lifetime emergence. Many of the attachments had never been used, the tooling pristine and very comprehensive, the machine itself would have to be described as having been switched on a few times, admired, and wrapped up again. Apart from a very few scratches on the "original like new" paint on the vertical head the complete works could be described as being as it left the factory in 1970.

I have cruised the German ebay site off and on over years and my estimation of price in Germany would be in the region of 20,000 euros. Where else could you buy an FP1, series 2,in a similar condition?.

By the way, since the price exceeded $1000 the buyers premium reduced to 13 1/2%.

The purchaser obviously knew what he was bidding on and will be well pleased in spite of the "buyers rip" and GST.

I have only started doing it as I never know whether me posting it is annoying the hell out of people that have seen the item and are in the process of buying it... So I have been a bit vague deliberately..
I can just post the full link every time if most are happy with that... Or post nothing at all...

Whe somone quotes from a post, there is a little blue box with two arros next to the poster's name. That is the link directly the original post - no matter how far back.... easy to navigate when you realise that.

I just dont get why we half hint at somthing. Its either worth reporting or it isn't.

If you have all ready come to the conclusion that it worth a "Shout Out" here. Why not just link it, and save every one the agravation of hunting it done via Ebay Gumtree Greys etc. 399 times out of 400, I'm never going to bid, I'd rather just see whats on offer, with one click, rather than dick about and join the other half of the conversation.

Run this past me? Can you find those 5 "offcut" vendors from Sydney. Be stuffed if I can. A little link at the ground floor might have got me on the right path.

just search ebay or where ever for brass bar or stainless then when the result comes up click an item , then click sellers other items , then save seller to your seller list . thats all i do , not very hard to do at all .
one is offcuts galore another is willy metals cant remember all of them .
i should think if you typed offcuts you would get a thousand things nothing to do with metal . and i am not a rocket tech .

    Default CNC RF Mill

Interesting to see how much this CNCed RF mill eventually goes for.

And in the process, off people like me who may well be planning on bidding on something, and do not want the competition cued in to a good deal so the price goes up. We've done this to death both here and on PM.

Note this objection only applies to auctions. If it's a sale on Gumtree or a BIN item on eBay, go for it. If I knew about it and haven't already bought it, tough luck for procrastination.

That B/port mill on Gumtree in Brisbane is a good example. Had I been closer (and didn't already own a B/port) I'd have been on the phone in seconds....

unless of course it was some thing you wanted and never saw it until it came up in this thread so that you could throw a bid at it ,

Thanks for posting that... you've just re-inforced my opinion that whenever you are thinking of bidding on a Gray's auction you should always do the on-site inspection. In this instance the FP1 was probably a bargain considering the history and condition. I've seen stuff on Gray's that defies belief, badly identified, mispelt, blurry photographs.. On site inspection clears up many mysteries..
