I'm blaming artme for this one, because, you know, it's entirely reasonable.
I was going to put another horizontal brace on the gate I made at the level of the latch to lock it.
Then artme told me that it's not a real gate without a diagonal brace ... so hmmm ... I had to think about it.
Which explains why 6 or whatever months later ... it's still here.

That's a cracker of a canvas awning.
...I'll just make the other bits smaller.

Struth, Paul, whatever that gate was supposed to keep in or out must've long since got in or out, so you don't actually need it any more.....
I don't see your problem, anyway. Put in the centre lock-rail, and just add two braces. They do make a big difference to a gate, especially reasonably heavy ones. Traditionally, the braces go from the top on the lock side to the bottom on the hinge side. A triangle is a triangle, so it shouldn't deform whichever way you put the diagonal brace, but they do seem to work better when applied in the traditional way, or maybe that's just my limited experience.....
Cheers,IW

I *do* thank you - it's very convenient.
See ... that's what I wanted to hear.
No ... it was never an issue of functionality or even execution ... it just fell into that category of "I'd like to think about that more" and other things came along and it never climbed out again. It's standing right against the back door ... but it'd probably still be there now even if I'd laid it on its side across the doorway so I had to step over it to go out.
Don't encourage him dammit.
Cheers,
Paul

Such as it is ... it's still outdoors. Currently with a lathe ontop of it.

Or so we thought!
Having dithered over and given in to a deluge of pine retrieved from a Woolworths skip ... and very much needing a good longterm saw library solution ... I am determined to turn this lot into a Mark 1 saw drawer 'cupboard'.
Starting point ...

Clear off the ... accumulation ... and it looks pretty good. Still flat.

i haven't read the whole thread or at least not that i remember.
it just popped up on my email. so i had a look at the last few posts.
can i ask. what is meant by the phrase "a Mark 1 saw draw"? i did a quick search but nothing stood out.
seems like very large timber dimensions for a draw, or cupboard is all, so curiosity got the better off me )
cheers
