Backsaw renovation
I bought this saw back in the 80's and it has been in use ever since. There are a couple of features i've never liked though, the handle is uncomfortable to use and sharpening is a pig on that extended part below the handle.
This one is better in those regards and is what i will work towards.
This hardpoint saw was one I got at a garage sale for the sake of the sawnuts, only a dollar!
The hanlde is pretty uninspiring, but with a bit of cutting and shaping it might come close to what I want and save me a bit of time and wood.
A couple of cuts and a bit of glue;
A bloke might as well put a dowell in there too, can't hurt it.
I'll let that go off overnight and do a bit more tomorrow.

Here's the finish to it.
With a bit of sawing and lots of filing and sandpapering, the handle is showing the spirit of what I am after.
Having chiseled out the aperature for the back to sit in, the blade will need a little trimming to fit. Fortunately the trimming gets rid of those two holes and leaves plenty of clear room for the new nuts.
Starting to come together...
Finally, a polish of the blade and nuts, a bit of shellac on the handle and it's done. For now anyway. I'll give it some use and see if I want to make any changes later.
Cheers.

Good tool rescue. I like to see old stuff get a second chance.

Well, they say you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear, but you've come pretty close!
Only negative is that pointy bit at the back of the cheeks - spoils the line & could be a potential knuckle-buster. I think your new handle would look even better with that rounded off.....
Cheers,IW
