That looks heaps better, well done! I only started playing with hand planes a year ago when I started my WIP workbench (has it been a year already...I'm not done yet...epps!), but by the time ur finished the legs you'll be almost an expert (well, better than you are now at least!!)
Nice grain in the timber btw

Hey Paul,
The bench is looking good! Any progress to report?
My offer is still open if you need a hand moving it around or if you need to use any of my machinery (back in Dec).

got into some more today, mainly the slab on the right as it was 12mm thicker than the right. Used a ulmia wooden smother fitted out as a scrub with a stanley 3 blade rounded off and the LV LAJ to reduce tear ooot (canadian for tear out).
Boy this timber is tanin rich. I look like ive been working on an engine or filing cast iron. Tanin has also stain the base of the plane. And not to gross you out but look what happens when the sweat drips on it. Will this tanin lead to issues down the track when finishing???

Bout time you did some more work on this
I often look like I just stumbled out of the coal mine after a session with hand planes. Bloody hard to get the hands and arms clean too. I bought myself a LV apron because I ruined lots of clothes by permanently tanin staining them.
I haven't found any finishing issues with the tanin rich timbers. But I'm no expertThose were the droids I was looking for.

Your just after someone like TL to do some palm reading Paul
Good to see you getting the hands dirty, I often depending on wood have the same problem when turning especially some NGR.
Now its just a matter of keeping the momentum up.

I am sure it will say " You will live a long and healthy life if you remember to not to bring shavings into the house"
Some small progress. I raised the height of the work using ply and pine to form an open box on top of the saw horses to make them plane horses.
Cant decide whether to go and sharpen saws at TTTG or do some more work on this. Perhaps both!

Good work on the height adjustment Paul.
I am a bit worried though the use of a whipper snipper to plane that could be a bit dangerous. What blade/s are you using

Anyone still here?
Well after a long and protracted period mixed with frustration and success ( I can now 4 square timber by hand but not 2.4m long ) I asked for help from a couple of forumites who were part of the barn raising crew. Part of the deal was that I needed to update this thread. So I am a bit overdue from early August but a deal is a deal.
Thanks to the motivation I have made some decisions such as trimming the length and width to make the milling of bowed and twisted slabs easier. Since then progressed to the point where I milled the majority of the timber, glued the top and the leg vice. Some more work and electrickery will be required to rout out for the benchcrafted crisscross and benchcrafted tail vise.
Photos to follow.
