Thread: Is the Canberra show dead?

There is no Forum Stand this year and U-Beaut Polishes will not be at the show but you can buy from Carroll's Woodcraft Supplies and Trend Timbers at the show if you visit the show. Might even get a little discount if you ask nicely and say at Neil's suggestion.
Noelene is recovering nicely but Billinudgel Woodworks and Big Stan still won't be there.
Cheers - Neil

What George said. If the woodies of the ACT and nearby do not support it, they cannot complain if it ceases in the future.

Same discussion every year about the Canberra show. There is so much more that could be done to advertise that isn't. I will miss Stan as I wanted to have a chat about something but will be saying g'day to Trend, Carrolls and everyone else and supporting them all where I can. I am unable to travel and with all our woodworking supply stores in Canberra gone, thank goodness there is the Woodcraft guild to get a bit of advice. Nothing beats one to one conversations and advice and the Canberra Working With Wood Show is the only chance some of us get. With Stan gone, those who come this year who might have wanted to see him, will think twice about going next year. And it is not just woodies that go; it is fathers day weekend and there is huge potential to capitalise on that but no one does.

It should be a good show to meet people and mingle with same minded woodies.

Might get to go after all!
I wasn't going to be around for the show, but circumstances have changed. Hopefully I can go tomorrow or Sunday

Just received the Henry Eckhert news letter. If you are going to the show and planning to make a purchase from Henry Eckhert make sure you mention the 10% off for Father's Day.

I was in Canberra for the weekend so I was able to call in to the wood show today around midday.
I got some goods off HNT Gordon, Jim Davey, Bench Standard and Trend. I had my 8 month old son with me so he landed two great wooden cars from the local woodies club.
I enjoyed the show, had good conversations with the stall holders. I couldn't fit any timber in the car with it fill of suitcases and a stroller, though. Although, the old excuse of Father's Day on wood show day more than paid off.....

I made it!!!
I got to the show and finally met Terry O'Loughlin in person.
I didn't get to spend anywhere near the time I had hoped picking his brain about saw and plane making as I was accompanied by my junior overseer who has the attention span of a gnat, and we were near so many toys. So very many.
I'll be joining the ACT Woodcraft Guild in the very near future
Got to briefly visit Jim Davey who runs my favourite stall at the show I also picked up a heap of rasps, which I badly needed. It was nice to see Gregory Machinery and MAJOR back in town and was impressed with Bench Standard.

The show was good, I spent half a day there. Just realized that I was too busy talking to people, watching demos and buying some bits and pieces that I didn't take any photos. Good to see the Major Woodworking machinery and Lagunas in one place - when I was on the market for a table saw, I would really love to have such an opportunity to compare tools pretty much next to each other. (BTW, table saws look nearly identical, with a few cosmetic differences, and a bit cheaper looking fence on the MW saw).
Bench Standard looks good, I didn't see them before, bought a few little pieces from them, especially like the bargain - a big router mat for $6!
Was watching the demos by Theo Haralampou on a new Vicmarc VL240, I like his style of demos. Learned a few tips from him. BTW, the demo model of VL240 was for sale after show - did anyone get it?
Carrolls was there, and that is where my biggest spending at the show was, and that was limited by them not bringing enough stock of things I wanted to get (probably, this is a good thing).
A lot of other 'usual suspects' at the show, where you can try and buy hand tools, like HNT Gordon (I don't know how people use his tools, if I was to buy one I would put it in in a display cabinet), Woodriver, Lie Nielsen, Japanese tools.
