I need a Shed!
One of the major criteria with buying my first home was to have a good space for my tools and stuff.
That didn't really happen - just a garage where the RX7 sits out of the weather and not much more. Thought about fold down benches and lots of shelves, but got over that pretty quick.
Nothing left to say - gotta build a shed..
Let's see, shouldn't need council approval if under 20 squares, greater than 900 off the boundary, not masonry and not reflective and less than 3 meters in height.
Here's the start - on blocks, easier than a slab

Mucking around with the blocks and eyeing the size I have to work with, I've settled on 4.8m x 2.4m x 3 meters in height
A few more blocks from Bunnings and bearers make the trip on top of the Prado

Shed build has to take a back seat to wifey's requests for some paving

Worried about the overall height, I had a tip from someone at Bunnings just to roll the joists over and use them as the floor boards. mmm, good idea. Keeping with the overengineering theme, I thought I'd throw a few joists on hangers as well.

Finally! After a few weeks and many trips carting 90x45's and the occassional 120x45 from Bunnings I have a floor

truss time.
Trying to keep the shed height down, I was going to do a flat roof but I couldn't find a look I liked. So went for a 12:3 truss height without a bottom chord. 90x45's with double ply gussets was the go. Boring as hell making these - especially making all the gussets.

Now that the floor and trusses are done - we have a landmark day. Today we go 3D!

Haven't thought too hard about windows and doors, but decided to have double doors at the end and 1 x window on the side. Didn't want to waste too much storage space with windows. The window is sized so that I keep my 600 centers on the vertical thingys. Will have to work out what to do about the window and doors. Probably will end up having to make them. Another first for me. The largest thing I've made before is a picnic table and a small deck for my mum.
Here we go, all walls up.

What to use as siding was a struggle. Went out to a lumber yard at Box Hill, NSW only to that I couldn't afford hardwood siding. Would have been around $4,000 just for the siding alone. Decided to Blueboard the neighbours view and use Weathertex Ecogroove on the sides we can see.
One side sarked and Blueboarded. The Blueboard was a pain in the butt for me and the missus to get home from Bunnings - really, really heavy!

time to sark the roof

and to add my small gable end. I would have made the gable end a little longer, but I ordered my roof cap at 5.1 meters - so stuck with a little gable end. Looks OK to me

Time for the roof - and yes, it's raining

Barge boards are mixed red wood flooring boards from Bunnings - yet to do the sides
not sure how to finish off bolting down the ridge cap - the corro doesn't feel like it will handle too much walking on. The purlins are strong enough, but worried about accidently tredding on an unsupported bit in the middle of the purlin support. Also a bit scared of heights!
