Paul, if you open your pics in windows Pic & fax viewer, rotate and close then they will be the right orientation and we won't have to send you a humungous collective Chiropractor's bill.

Here you go Paul you'd think with modern technology it would just rotate knowing your working hard.
I can't see that 1mm hump but can the long bit which is lower in the middle.

Done but need to shape the chop and plug the hole

Ooh nice. Is the cross under any tension, spring loaded or summat? Or does it just sit there? Fixed at the top, both sides I presume. I know I could look it up but you need the typing practice.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

The crisscross is a retro. The steel pins in the brackets (see photo 4) hold the Criss to the leg and the cross to the chop. Then you put a steel pin through the middle making it a Criss cross (exec summary of instructions). The base on each side travels against a steel plate in the bottom of the rebate. It seems to support the load of the chop.
originally it it was a crisscross solo which comes without the brackets but you need a straight hole and well let's just say buy cheap buy twice.
The vice wheel, nut and crisscross are all held to the components with holes tapped into the wood which was easy to do and worked well.
I would like to give a shout out to Jameel the owner of Benchcrafted who has answered my emails and sent the brackets.

Looking good. Is the Retro just easier to install?

For me the retro removed the variability of the solo where you need A good Drill press and bit to accurately go through 200 - 225 mm and come out straight and true. The retro relies on the top of the rebate only as the reference face this was easier to achieve.

I struggled to work out what you were talking about there so I relented and went to the benchcrafted site. It all makes sense now.
Should be a great vice. Are you doing a BC tail vice as well? Those were the droids I was looking for.
