The braided cord looks spot on. I have been keeping an eye out for old style electrical cord or any other item that I think may be useful to you, but haven't had a great deal of luck as yet. Glad someone gave you a heap of the old electrical cord to keep you going for a while.

Thanks for that Alan if you happen across some it would be great.
I've found that you can still buy the single strand wire, they use it when restoring old electric guitars.
So at the end of the day if I'm really desperate I can buy some.
But I'd much rather find the original old stuff and use that.

    Cheers mate

After spending a fair bit of time trying to workout how I could modify the clutch cover to look the way I wonted it.
I realised it would be easier to make a new one.

The one I made originally was solid right the way through.
Were as this one will actually work as a cover and the area that houses the clutch will be hollow.

The reason for all the messing around is that on the 1920 Harley there is a couple of holes in the cover and you can actually see the clutch.
So I'll need to make a dome for it using Styrofoam, Plaster and Fibreglass.

I've got a fair bit done so far it's all made from MDF.
The new one is a little longer than the old one.
For some reason I had the position of the clutch out by almost an inch, but that's been fixed this time round.
I'll cut out the HD for the centre tomorrow and put them in place, before blending it all in together with bodyfiller.

    Cheers
    Trev.

What a difference a decade makes!
Although the techniques I use are exactly the same, the finish and scale have improved a lot.
I'm really glad I decided to make a new cover.

The HD below on the original cover looks a little sad compared to the new one.

The HD is cut from 3mm MDF and glued to the cover.
Then I've run bodyfiller around all of the edges to blend them into the base timber.
The photo below shows how it looked after it's first coat of primer and a sanding.

In this photo it's had another two coats and been sanded in between time.
I'll leave it as is now and attach the piece that surrounds it giving it the same treatment.

While waiting for the coats of primer to dry I got started on the clutch plate cover.
So my nice clean work area is now covered in styrofoam (Know I shouldn't have bothered with cleaning up).
Fair dinkum it looks like a White Christmas out there!.

    Cheers
    Trev.

Got the diamond shaped surround sorted today.
I've also added the 10 dimples that would have been in the cover.
A detail I missed first time round.

The eight dimples around the outside of the cover have come up pretty well, but I think the two inside the diamond still need a little work.

The next step will be to finish the dome that covered the clutch plates.
It will go over the hole on the right of the cover and be blended into it, to give the appearance of it all being one part.

The original cover on the Harleys was little more than pressed tin, so I'll try to keep the fibreglass dome fairly thin.
It will have two holes in it so it needs to look the right thickness.

You can see the two holes in the cover on this original.

    Cheers
    Trev.

I came down to Torquay yesterday to catch up with Keith and Cathie.
Had a great time seeing all of Keith's wonderful work.
John and Dallas called in as well which was bonus!.

Really nice people and a very enjoyable day.

I stopped a Litchfield on the way down to stretch my legs.
The sun was just coming up so I opened both of the doors of the van and took a photo.
    I kinda like it.

    Anyway back home today.
But a big thanks to Keith and Cathie for a very nice day!.

    Cheers
    Trev.

    An absolute pleasure Trev.

Dare I say the Indian looks better in real life. Fantastic.

Look forward to a coffee with you this morning.

As Keith said, it was an absolute pleasure meeting such a talented gentleman. The Indian was magnificent in real life and we couldn't have asked for a better day to welcome you into our neck of the woods.
I think people who had not followed your thread on the build of the bike would find it very hard to believe that it was not built from normal components.
Thanks Keith for opening up your home and shed to us, and to Cathie for the coffee and delicious cakes.

    What an awesome photo!

OK, new competition. What caption / mantra / life message would you add to the photo to make it into a poster?

    How about;

    Indian - then, now, forever...

Corny , I know, but it starts off the comp. (Winner gets the Indian...)
