Default As promised some holiday photos....

    As promised some holiday photos....

Starting with the photos taken by Derek Edge from Shepparton with his smart phone,
whom we met on the UK Bus Trip from the York National Railway Museum and kindly sent onto me.....

Derek said that 2hrs wasn't nearly enough time and only scratched the surface; a whole day would have been better....the joys of a bus tour....too much to see and not enough time.....

    Cheers Peter

Glad that you have managed to get home safely and hopefully a little rest after the travelling. You know that Keith will be drooling over all those train pictures.

Some great pictures of the team on their facebook page all seemed to enjoy the event.

Thanks Derek, I'm looking forward to regaining some normality in the day to day though it's colder here than London, the UK and even Helsinki....fir's been on since lunchtime.

A VERY BIG "YES", on the trains, I suspect Keith will be planning a trip to York!! Derek took a whole heap more than that as he showed them to me after the bus stopped the evening we stayed overnight in Leeds.

It was a real eye opener for the kids from Springwood to be a part of such a world event and in my humble opinion, they can very much hold their heads high for their performances; they did a top job, something they can be very proud of [worth all the training] for themselves, there club and for Australia.
I've only seen a little of what's on facebook but some of the photos & video edits are from my camera as i shared them with the Gymnastics Australia media manager whom we've know for a number of years.

    Cheers, Peter

Those kids will be much the better for the experience. Whatever time they lost from school will be more than compensated by the experience of seeing other countries and cultures.

Something I did not tell you Peter that Saturday just gone there was a meet up at a school on the outskirts of York mainly of pen woodturners. Someone did offer me a lift up there but the travelling time would have been to much for me. That is why I don't travel very much nowadays. Concidering that I have been all over the world when I was younger and lived in places like Singapore for 3 years at a place called Changi

I've never even been able to visit Changi. There's been a few too many Fletts 'visit' there over the years.
However I will soon be visiting Driffield, Leconfield and other RAF bases. Thankfully that Flett did return from World War II.

Default The holiday photos from the camera begin....

The holiday photos from the camera begin....

We arrived in Heathrow after something like 34hrs after leaving home , but had to make it to Hammersmith, West London to our hotel and we were fortunate to have the sister of the gymnast who was traveling with us to help us with the London Underground railways system ...The rail system seemed good but stuffy and we we were told not to travel in peak times as it's like sardines in the carriages.....

We took a walk towards Kensington Gardens, coming upon the WW2 Bomber Command Memorial, then noticed lots of people all dressed up in its vicinity, some old timers with medals. It was the re-dedication of the memorial with these older blokes being veterans of whom I saw 3 who had Military Medals in their cluster of medals on their left side. I shook one blokes hand acknowledging his medal & thanking him for his service; the lady beside him [I assume his daughter] smiled and thanked me.

We then strolled through the gardens for some 1.5hrs admiring the summer flowers and old trees..
Everything was so green. Cheers, Peter

PS - Some help from those that know please.....the new camera takes photos 6000x4000 pixels so 7 to 10mb in size. I tried to upload these and nothing seemed to work so I've used Photoshop to "Image Resize", but is there and easier way please, thank you....Also, even doing that about half of this lot of photos wouldn't load

I bet he will be happy that someone had the time to stop and thank him. And I thank you for taking the time to honour him by just a simple Thank you it means so much.

Derek, It was my honour to THANK the veteran.....especially as he had a Military Medal given for Gallantry on his chest....

The grass was very green compared to many Aussie towns; though the Park Attendance in one we where, said that his park was over an old Bomb Shelter and needed consistent watering in the hot London summer days.....
