After much research I settled on the Harvey, however, if I could get the Laguna for the price you can I would buy it as there is little between the two.

I have had a Laguna Fusion for nearly two years now. It has been a very good machine. I check the fence alignment and blade alignment every few months. I adjusted the fence alignment when I assembled the machine, and the fence alignment is still spot-on two years later. The blade alignment is still set as supplied from the factory - less that 0.001" difference between the front and the back of the blade - measured from the blade to the mitre slots with a Dial Indicator mounted on a cross cut sled.

I did have to adjust the blade alignment on a Laguna Platinum for a fiend. The blade on his Platinium went out of alignment. He bought the saw second hand and had it freighted from Melbourne to Toowoomba. From evidence of damage to the outside of the packing crate, I suspect that the crate had been dropped during shipment. His blade was about 0.010" out of alignment when he removed it from the packing crate in Toowoomba. If the blade on the Laguna Platinum, or on the Laguna Fusion, ever needs adjustment, it's a simple matter of loosening the four bolts that hold the cast iron top to the cabinet, and very gently tapping the top a little to get the alignment you're after. It took about ten minutes to adjust the blade, and all adjustment bolts on the Fusion and on the Platinium are accessible on the outside of the cabinet, so you don't have to have triple jointed arms to reach the adjustments inside the cabinet as is the case on some brands.

Dust collection on the Fusion is OK, but I think it will be able to be improved significantly by upgrading the dust collection port from 100mm to 150mm, and by adding some extra air inlet vents in the saw cabinet to allow enough extra airflow to allow the full benefit of having the bigger dust collection ducting. I'm just starting the installation of 150mm PVC duct in my workshop, and as part of that process I'll be making the mods to the Laguna Fusion to accept the 150mm pipe.

At that price, I'd grab that Platinium, before someone else does.

I am pretty happy with my Platinum. The only thing that needed attention was the the blade height adjuster that was stiff to use from new. Turned out to be poor gear meshing when assembled at the factory. The saw is solidly built and nothing has moved out of adjustment after it's final set up before use.

Definitely fit a 6" hose because I was told by a service tech. that the saws he has seen with 4" hoses have a heap of dust in the cabinet base. Pretty easy to do with a jig saw fitted with a metal cutting blade.

I would buy it, I don't think you will be disappointed.

I found the dust port needed to be larger and after enlarging I found that the extraction was helped by propping the door open 5mm to allow more airflow. (I couldn't bring myself to cut holes in the cabinet). Other than that it hasn't had any problems.

Hi, sorry to go off topic. When you say you enlarged the ducting, how did you go about this? Is just the outlet port bigger? or did you increase the size of the pipe that is connected to the shroud collecting dust directly under the blade? Do you have any pics of your mod?

If you are talking about the Platinum, mine does not have a dust shroud surrounding the blade. I cut a larger circle with a jig saw in the 4" flap then cut two 6"holes in some 16mm MDF which I placed on the inside and outside of the steel plate and siliconed some 6" pvc pipe into the the hole and then opened up the the cabinet directly opposite to increase the airflow.

Apologies, I thought this was about the Laguna Fusion for some reason, which is what I have.

Unfortunately the shroud on the Fusion only has about a 1.5 to 2" outlet. Pretty useless really. But I guess you could still make the port on the side of the machine bigger and just suck more out of the cabinet itself.
