Not only is it a drill press, the rack and pinion on the table technically means you could use it as a 2-axis milling machine

Looking great Matty, your making fast work of this restore!!
whats your plan for driving it (sorry jumping ahead...lol)? Do you have all the pulleys and change lever? I note that Wadkin & Co also did an electric motor version, mounted on that rear bracket, is that the way your going with it?
Cheers,
Camo

Hi Cam, yes I have some of the pullys and bits, but I thought of just slinging the motor of the back and running one long flat belt to the head, I'm also thinking of running a VFD as well just so I can play with the speeds !
See how much money I've got left !

Fantastic progress Matty, very impressed with your welding job; quite an inspiration. I would have probably spent about 2 years thinking about tackling that and still not pluck up the courage to commit to it. I was very interested to see your welding process, I have a few things with little breaks to stick back together. I decided to try brazing with oxy-acetylene but didn't have much success, i think i'll have a go with your stick process as I can arc weld downhand to a passable standard sometimes. My machine is AC though.
I hope you go with the full flat belt option, no reason not to stick a vfd driven motor on aswell, but on the floor so you can still see the belt twisting its little route round all those idlers - would be nice.

Glad it worked out Elan !
Hi Sion, thank you for your kind words.
I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I like to have a go, other wise how do you learn.
I have done a heap of cast iron welding repairs over the years on the cast iron decorative lace work on Victorian Heritage homes and buildings.
It wasn't till later that I used my skills to weld machine pieces up.
Had not thought about the floor mount motor, I was going to put it up high and run a single belt.
Melbourne Matty.
