Truck money box

Well just finished well nearly finished I should say a pair of involuted candle sticks (waiting for the finish to dry) these will be posted in the turning section as soon as I get some photo's, at least that is another present made.

So I am now onto another present and as you can guess it is a toy/money box based on a mail money box but I will be making my own opening system instead of buying the brass back doors.

The wheels I have already shown when I made the spoked wheel jig I had completed HERE so will not go through them again. I prepared most of the wood and in the progress of marking out.

So this is the start of the build.

Most of the wood prepared still need to do some odd bits

Work was very slow today had the great grandson most of the day who insisted that he wanted to help me in the shed. This is where he sat for over two hours while I was in the shed he was so happy just doing everything that I did except when I was using the machines luckily I had a small hand drill he could use on that piece of wood which I had sanded so no sharp edges.

I did manage to cut out and sand the two mudguards using the fret saw and my home made sanding table which is part of my drill press this takes all of the fine dust away. I will take photo's of the completed mudguards tomorrow

He loves it in there with me, the only problem is I don't get as much done when he is there but it is worth it. And yes it is cold here wake up to heavy frost this morning good job I have a heater in the workshop.

Derek,

Really good to see your great grandson helping you. My grandson just plays with cars in the shed. Your handiwork looks excellent. While its cold over there, tomorrow it is predicted to be mid 30's (celcius) here in Torquay.

Anyway onto todays efforts not really a lot to show.

Routed the two sides as you can see in this photo (photo's are a little out of order as I forgot to take one with just the bits routed out)

Made up a small piece of wood to sit in the panel slot to keep everything in line up and held together with masking tape and then cut out the shape of the sides this meant they are a perfect match, which also included cutting out the cab door area

cut out the chassis piece along with the rear cab bulkhead nothing special about these pieces

Finally the pieces I have so far which also shows the mudguards from yesterday

You may have to migrate out here to the Great Land of Oz

Although it can get cold in winter !!

I nearly did with my parents many years ago we where going to settle in Adelaide. That was over 40 years ago but they said there was to many family here.

Very little done today cut a few parts and glued up a block for the engine bay will finish cutting the correct shape of that tomorrow when the glue has fully dried.

A quick dry fit followed by all the parts so far

Looking great.
I think we had your weather today. Wednesday was warm in the 30's, today was cold, wet and windy. Put a jumper or jacket on outside day.

I managed even less today but at least got all the parts cut to size except the rear doors which are cut to the correct height but need to finish them and the reason OK please don't laugh but I managed to sneeze and jarred my back and yes it was painful at the time feeling better now and will be in the workshop tomorrow

This is now all the parts except the grill surround which is all ready sized

A dry fit of the rear doors and the engine block soon be glueing up once I have sorted the back door lock which is in the design stage in other words I am making it up as I go
