New H&F Band saws
Hi all,
Has any one got one of the new Hare and Forbes band saws. BP255, BP310 or BP360. They look to be a big improvement on the old ones and have some good standard features and appear to be well priced. I am considering the BP310 and would like to hear any feed back from owners on the quality and what their general thoughts on the machine are.

I have the same brand but a BP355 and have been happy with it for the last 5 plus years. Quality is reasonably good and I think I got value for money.
If it were me I would try and save the extra dollars and get the bigger of the three. The extra cutting power and depth will be worth it and blades last longer on larger machines while costing about the same as smaller ones. I dont think there is anyone with a bandsaw that did not sometimes wish to cut something bigger.
Regards
John

I have the same machine as Orraloon, the BP355,mine is a Sherwood branded machine from timbecon but in essense the same machine.
I recently upgraded from an old Carbatec 14" machine with small 3/4 Hp motor and 6" depth of cut.
The limiting factor with these smaller machines in my opinion is not so much the throat size but the size of motor and depth of cut plus they tend to be a lot more noisy too.
If you intend not to cut lot of really thick timber or do much resawing then this machine is probably OK.
You might be better paying the extra $160 or so if you can do that and get the bigger BP 360 with bigger capacity and more powerful motor.

I have one of the new bp310 (purchased november). Has been used daily since. Awesome unit for the price.
Got some guts for a 'smaller'bandsaw.

I'm considering one of these - or maybe the next size up, but have not yet seen them "in the flesh".
Did you look at the new BP-360 as well? If you did, I would be interested in your opinion on relative overall sizes of the machines - I am REALLY tight for space. If both have similar workshop footprint them I might go for the bigger machine as everyone seems to suggest that a 14" is best starting size for a general purpose band saw. Otherwise I was thinking that the BP-310 would do for now & when I eventually get a proper workshop space & could use it with narrow blade for small scale work & get a bigger machine for larger work & resawing.

I know that you are tight for space, but is putting the bandsaw on a mobile base going to give you more freedom, if so I would go the larger one.

Thanks for the feedback - I would need to put even a small saw on a mobile base, as it would need to be moved every time its used. I will have to go and check them out I suspect.
Its a pity that H&F don't have a "workshop footprint" dimension on their products, a la Carbatec.

I was wondering if anyone has bought a BP 360 from Hare and Forbes and if so could give some thoughts on how they have found it?

Another bp355 owner and another suggestion for buy big. I find the 355 to be generally OK given the price but really wish I had gone bigger. Depends on what you make though, I like furniture so want resaw height, if you make boxes and turning blanks then small will be more than enough.
