    Ray,
I'm sorry, if you make Daves GTG .
We are going to have to have a little chat!
About saws and saw plates and possibly a little scheme ,I'm planning.
Please keep the last bit to yourself.
We met at the back saw workshop in Melbourne a few years back now.

    Hi Dave,

I'd like to be there, but I really shouldn't, If I'm not doing chisel handles, I'll be feeling guilty. I'll be there in spirit, and make sure you take plenty of pictures.

    I'll keep quiet.

Does this mean I get my skew back?

PS is there anybody in the North Shore area of Sydney getting a set - I wouldn't mind having a look at the handles
    regards

    Hi Nick,

Yes, I'll get that organized, but it's not a skew, it's a 12 mm paring chisel, plus some saw making bits.

    Ray

PS I can send you one of my handles if you wanted to copy it?

hmm thought I'd sent down the skew paring chisel - maybe not, doesn't matter in any event
    Thanks
I was/am interested in the handle to see if it fits my mit, hence my question. If there's a spare on send it up otherwise don't worry, I can knock a couple up in pine and play until I'm happy

I didn't have any ordered (I found the two years waiting for the plane irons taxing enough ).

    Hi Ray,

I thought I would post some pics of the finished product and say how much I love the finished chisels. I appreciate all your efforts and those of all parties involved it getting to this point........Thank You!

To fit the handles I used a block of pine progressively drilled out to drop the handles in as a tight & vertical fit. I then mounted it in the drill press and again progressively drilled the hole for a tight fit of the chisel tang, using the tang as a scraper to smooth the drilled hole.

I used a Dremel with a milling type bit to grind out the brass for a tight fit around the tang and the jigsaw was to touch up the corners from round to a sharp edge corner.

I decided to glue my handles because of some other chisels I have that are forever coming apart depending on what season it is i.e. Summer handle shrinks and in Winter swells. I didn't want to have to think about it every time I pick up a chisel.

Hope you enjoy the photos (if they attach), again thank you!

    Regards
    Mick

    Mick

That's a terrific job on the handles and the chisels themselves are magnificent. What is the timber?
