    Whats an 'in'

U was getting real excited till you said it has to be clamped to something

Is there an optimum height for a clamp?

They all are typically held in a bench vise or clamped to the work bench in the shed. Out in the field clamped to a fence post or rail. So I guess approximately 900mm high?

I guess if you don't want to clamp them you could make a trestle style with two legs and a few tent pegs for extra holding?

My other concern is how heavy and stable is Matt's table/bench. If we have everyone filling away attached to it will we be incurring each others momentum shaking the table?
We could have someone drumming on an african drum so we all work in unison to cancel the opposing persons force.

Ok, in all my spare time I might see what I can come up with for a field version. Solid as that table is I do ponder 50 guys trying to file simultaneously

I should have mentioned before that my saw vice that I posted earlier was based on Andy's model. My memory is that he clamped his vice in one of those B & D workmate style sawhorse/clamp/mini bench things. I did comment to him that I was going to unashamedly copy his vice, but I would be using a more stable (Horses for courses?) device to hold it.

This is an impressive looking saw vice I spotted a while back and saved in my saw picture library for future reference:

Just one thing Mick, if it's ok I generally prefer my tool handles in ebony, zebrano, or Purble heart if I'm feeling luxurious.

(Sorry out of edit time tonight)

    Cheers Matt

Hmmm, there could be a way to make one purple.

I have some framing pine off cuts, which is what I am turning them out of. I do just happen to have a set of food safe coloured dye from Ubeaut, however it may come out a bit more like Puce Purple.

Now to make a saw vice.

Does this mean we just turn up with no files (in general that is) but a full wallet and receive files from you?

Pretty much. If you don't have a full wallet, that's OK too. Come anyway.

We would expect yours to be empty or else you have not spent enough in preparations of your guests.
