I spent the day making some changes to the engine.
A couple of alterations where needed to get it looking right for a 1926 Brough Superior.
Along with that there was something's I wonted to fix that I wasn't happy with.

    IMG_9167.jpg

On the front of the engine the boss that was under the timing cover has been removed.
It's not on the J.A.P KTOR that was fitted to the 1926 Brough.
The other change is I've thickened up the shoulder on the top right to closer match the left.

    IMG_9169.jpg

You had probably noticed there was a couple of pencil marks on the centre boss on the back of the crankcase for a long time.
It was to long and I'd been meaning to modify it for ages so job done.

The engine for the 1926 Brough has two tubes coming out of both of the barrels to the left of the push rods.
At this stage I'm not a 100% sure what their for or were they lead to.
Only that their meant to be there.

I'll have a look at making the rocker arms for the left head next.

    Cheers
    Trev.

I've been putting off building an engine stand for the J.A.P, knowing I'd probably go to far with it.
But the other day I kicked the engine over when I was walking through the door.
It's been sitting just around the corner on the floor when not being worked on.
There was no damage done but it made me realize it was time for a stand.

I also realized that although the stand ends up somewhat redundant it's a part of the build I enjoy.
    So I'm not holding back!.

Getting a little artsy I've taken my inspiration from a cross between a 1920's mantle clock, and a picture I saw once of an engine being displayed
in a shop window from around the same period.

    IMG_9218.jpg

The Brough logo that will be on the front is still a work in progress, but I'm happy with it so far.
I'm think maybe on the back panel it should have the J.A.P logo with the engine designation KTOR.

    IMG_9222.jpg

The good thing about having the engine mounted nice and high is that it leaves me room for the Magneto to be put in place.
With a little luck even the gearbox maybe able to go on as well.

I'll need to make a hole lot of mouldings to get the look I'm after.
The other thing I need is a little bit of sunny weather so I can throw some satin varnish around.

    IMG_9225.jpg IMG_9226.jpg

The only other thing that's been done on the engine is that I've made a start on the rocker arms.
They'll be made from some Texta casings, MDF and 5ply.

    Cheers
    Trev.

Did it start or was it just a compression test?

I spent sometime today cutting mouldings for the engine stand, and getting it's general layout the way I wonted it.
At the moment pretty much all of the front panel is just sitting in place as a mock-up.

    IMG_9229.jpg

I'm happy with the way it's looking so I'll go with the design and build the other three sides.

    Cheers

Been working away on the engine stand over the last few days.
Got it stained this morning and it's been a nice enough day to give it a coat of satin clear.
Here it is drying on the front deck.

    IMG_9265.jpg IMG_9267.jpg

The stands made from offcut pine floorboards.

    IMG_9268.jpg IMG_9269.jpg

I'll give it a light sand and another couple of coats of clear in a few days.
In the end I didn't worry about any signage on the back.
I just kept reminding myself it's a throughway thing.
But in the meantime I reckon it looks alright.

    Cheers

To be honest I have an amazing ability to predict if things will fit through doorways!.

But I think the one thing I can always predict is that given the chance to say something silly "I WILL".

There's a few bits and pieces I'm having trouble finding for the rockers.
So while I'm looking for those I've made a start on the Gearbox.

    IMG_9273.jpg

First I cut and laminated some Pine and MBF together to make the basic shape.

    IMG_9275.jpg IMG_9276.jpg

After that I added some PVC to the base to give more detail, and shaped the back of the box.
Then the top plate was put on.
This will have four studs in it that hold the Gearbox to the frame.

    IMG_9281.jpg IMG_9283.jpg

At the moment it's been given a coat of spray putty.
I've just started the facing plate that will hold the kick starter and the gear change lever.

    Cheers
    Trev.
