Guy Martin is a talent. Superlative effort.

I recall that the legendary trials bike rider, Sammy Miller, had a go at the wall of death, but was unable to do it. That surprised me as he too was an exceptional rider.

Guy Martin's Isle of Man TT riding for which he is famous, takes me back on a nostalgia trip to a time when I was able to go to the TT races as part of my job. The last time was back in 1975. Mick Grant won the senior TT on a Kawasaki 500cc grand prix bike. It think his lap record was 112mph. Today the lap record is 132mph on a bike that is only moderately modified from one you can buy out of the showroom (albeit 1000cc).

I had better not get started on motorcycles here or I will be thrown out for digression .

A bit of an update on the Indian.
I've entered it the Art from Trash Exhibition in Hobart.

I'm building a plinth to display the bike on and half a dozen free standing poles so I can rope everything off.
I've got the plinth pretty much done.
Although I'm not to sure it doesn't look like a 2/3 scale model of the worlds largest and most boring wedding cake!.

The plinths about 1800 x 600 and just made from particle board.

Between now and the Exhibition I also need to do some repairs to the Indian.
A few things on the left side of the bike got damaged by a young fellow who meant no harm!.

I've fixed the footplate, repainted it and it's back on the bike.
The kick starter and clutch pedal are done and not to far away from going back on.

There's a few other bits and pieces that need doing.
But I should have more than enough time to get it done before the bike needs to be in Hobart on the 17th.

Once I get this lot done I'll be back on the Brough!.

I think you should put some WIP photos near the bike, because they are just not going to believe what you say it's made from.

G'Day Trev, While I agree with Chris that a Work in Progress collage would be great for the general viewing public to gain an idea of the time, effort, talent and skill of the craftsman who built this magnificent bike model, having a photo with Dave sitting on the bike would not help the DO NOT TOUCH signs effectiveness....Cheers, Peter.

I love the way that you can pull individual parts off the bike to carry out maintenance. I remember you mentioning waaay back at the first Jerilderie GTG that you would have that ability. Looks like the Brough will also have that feature.

A big thank you to Fletty for mentioning your shed. I went back and clicked on the photo and BAMM, what a light filled shed to work in. Great for colour matching I bet?

I just had one of those wonderful moments out in the shed when you realise your just a big kid.
I've been making some poles to rope off the Indian at the exhibition.
To add weight to the base plate I've been filling them with cement.
I dropped the one I was just doing and it landed upside down (of cause) leaving a mess of cement all over the floor.

The hole thing made me laugh.
Not only am I a big kid playing with mud pies.
I've just dropped my lollies to boot!.

I've got some good poles I use for displaying things back in Mildura which is great but their of no use to me there.
So I'm making six new ones.
A good weighted base is the trick and this is my cheap easy way of making them.

I went to the local Reject Shop and brought six cake tins, costing a hole 2 dollars each!.
Then over at the Hardware Store I got some all thread and some small angle brackets plus a bag of good old cement.

This is the first one I made to check that everything was going to hold together.
The only change I've made from it is to have a little more length on the tread above the base to screw the pole on to.

I filled the rim of the cake tin in to make a nice concave lip.
No need to tell you what I've used there!.

In the last picture you can see the angle bracket that I've flattened out.
It's held in place by three nuts, the first two are between the base of the tin and the plate itself (they act as spacers).
The third just holds the plate in place.

When it's all filled up with cement the plate stops the cement from falling out.
Along with the nut that's screwed down on the top of cause.

Painted up white I reckon they should look pretty good.
It's just a bit of a shame the proses is so messy or in other words "Fun".

How big are the cake tins?
