You are able to publish that article elsewhere if the publisher gives you permission. I would expect them to want an acknowledgement of from where it came of course and they may want a reasonable period of time to elapse before that happened so it did not steal sales from their magazine.

At the other end, Derek would have to be comfortable with the "credits" too.

Having said all that, I think a slightly more "advanced" version might be more in keeping with Derek's website.

When I received my copy of "AWR" it sat on the kitchen table for a couple of days before I got the chance to open it up. It was there for a couple of days as SWMBO has gone off on holiday swanning around somewhere or other. Ordinarily, she would have put it elsewhere.

Anyhow the first thing that caught my attention on the front cover was the headline "Essential handsaws." Oooh, I thought. What if there is something I haven't got (I nearly said missing, but that would have laid me open to scandalous comment from those of you insensitive to my delicate nature).

It was then I discovered it was none other than our very own Wilkie giving a few pointers. So after checking out his article I didn't pick up the mag again until this evening and started , not reading, but flicking though.

And then I got to the page where some bloke is collecting Titan chisels and, and he has written a book on it.

Of course the relevance of sartorial elegance in his RMW shirt became apparent. Just out of interest as one person with an obsession (decent) to another person with an obsession (decency unknown) just how many titan chisels would you have? An estimate would do if your calculator display is not sufficiently wide .

Nice job Dick, even if you decide you are unable to respond to that last request.

Actually they asked me if I could provide a double page spread, but I was unable to come up with a shirt of any description .

I think we should stick to the main subject of this thread Paul which is Ian's article in the AWR, his saw expertise and writing skills BUT it does beg the question. How many shirts does Ian actually have? AND. Are they collectable? AND. Will we see another one in follow up articles. In regard to the unknown decency question. My nickname at sea was Dirty Dick. 1. Four, maybe 5.

2. The boss collects them (& washes them), about once a month.

3. You have a 1 in 4 chance...

If there not all saw up of course.
Other wise they may be worthless lol

Good read Ian, tough to distill so much information into a short article. All we need now is the definitive book...

I went to the Carbatec/AWR authors' morning last week, and listened to 4 different people talk about the trial & tribulations of publishing a book. Any ambitions I may have had to write books has been put quietly to rest....

Indeed, I don't care at all, Nick - it was just a throwaway line.

If I had any serious request at all, it would be to stick me under some nice clean Maple or other useful tree somewhere in the bush - bit of blood'n'bone to give it a boost. But seems you're not allowed to do that....

And yours get washed you say? My GF just throws mine out, sometimes while I'm still wearing them.
