Sydney 2016 - PHOTOS & STORIES
Howdy folks.
Use this thread to show your photos and tell us what you purchased, traded, stole, etc.
Give us your impressions of the show and any stories, tales, brags, or other info you may have for those of us who can't make it..
I believe the exhibitor side of the show is a total sellout and that pre-show sales are way up on last year so it's looking like it might be a goodun.
Cheers - Neil

A Great Day with a disappointing end....
A Great Day with a disappointing end....
Left home early enough to collect a mate in Penrith arriving safely about 9.30am meeting Fletty at the door all ready to man the stand...
I did a quick walk around with the camera, then spent a beaut 2+hours on the forum stand talking to many folk as they passed by....YES, IT'S FREE!!!!
After my stint it was a couple of hours to look around the show though I found it a little crowded for my liking so just did my shopping.
I'd arranged with Greg Ware to buy a piece of Camphor Laurel [600X400] as a replacement coffee table top [THANK YOU GREG]; the bought a couple of Carbitool router cutters plus a small brass mallet & a cutter from McJings...
I was giving Brett a lift towards home [snowing at Katoomba], when on the M4, got side swiped in the drivers door by a merging car/van; nothing too major, [2 doors, sill, rear guard scratched & dinted], but it's just taken the shine off the whole day....
Anyways, it was great to met and catch up with some old mates plus meet some new ones.....here's a set of photos of the show...the first ones are before opening then later when I got to walk around.....
Enjoy the rest of the show ladies & gents, Cheers, crowie
Opps...Nearly forgot - THANK YOU ALAN AND SHANE for all your ubeaut organization.....

I went this morning and thought it was the busiest I had seen it for the last few years. Lots of school groups around which is always encouraging. I was restrained this year, got some good tiger myrtle off cuts cheap from the tassie guys, and a few burl peices and that was about all. I was looking for a new skew chisel but there were very limited turning tools around (even popped into Carbatec afterwards but they were low on stock to).
Only other thought was if they could team up with the craft and quilt show (also on this weekend) I could kill to birds with one stone and not have to take my wife there tomorrow. Why is my work bench never tidy?

Surprising how loud a small amount of damage is. I was expecting to see large dents, but it was just a scrape, so I guess the noise was the doors popping in and out.
I can confirm that crowie (unknown to him, until we spoke about it just now) swerved to the left to avoid the other car, so he must have seen him out the corner of his eye. For a moment I thought he'd miraculously escaped until said loud noise became apparent. We were the lead car, so I guess the other guy should be at fault?
Oh, the show. Meh - I spent money on nothing that wasn't calorific, but spent plenty on that. It was at least of a reasonable standard, unlike other samplings.
I was able to compare the SawStop site saw with the De Walt 7491, but when I challenged the chap from Carbatec on why I should spend nearly double the dough for just over half the power to get a SS, he seemed to run out of arguments. Lots of finger waving ("These are valuable aren't they?") and some other comments that apparently didn't convince me. I've always believed that a good salesman should know when he's beat, and I suspect this chap subscribes to the same theory - he disappeared.
So as far as the show goes, I doubt if I'll go next year unless there is something specific I'm after. It seems to be the same but less every year. Probably the best on offer is timber because that's ongoing purchasing. There seemed to be quite a few stands that had zip to do with woodworking. I have to say I admire the patience and stamina of people who do show after show throughout the year - it must get quite wearing, particularly on Grommet Day (Fridays).

A photo or three taken late in the day on Friday, should be fairly self explanatory.
