A flat corridor ceiling would allow for air conditioning ducts and water tanks for toilet flushing and sinks. Being a model you would not need to include these as they would normally be hidden.

    Keep up the excellent work.

That piece is really coming alive with the wallpaper. It is great being able to do it as modular sections.

I think Keith should at least have flushing toilets and working sinks

    Derek,

Still a bit concerned on fitting all the internal walls and then securing to the chasis - it is making me think pretty hard about the final finished construction method

Hmmm - thanks about the running water - something to think about. Although don't know about toilet flushing in the early 1920s to 30s ? Will need to research on the internet.

    Regards

    Keith

The frame for the washroom and toilet frame is now made. Decided that the doors and windows had to be see through glass so the toilet, hand basin and other chattels can be observed. Now back onto the outer ends of the bedroom and wallpapering

My assumption would be that by having a water tank in the ceiling, (or on the roof) water could be supplied by gravity. Later carriages may have had the water supplied by air pressure, using the train pipe supply.

    Hi Keith,
I took my German visitor to TrainWorx today and took some pictures of the NSW Royal carriage. I know it's not the same carriage as you are modelling but the style and fashions should be similar. I could only take internal pictures through the windows but I'm happy to write to them to ask/beg for access IF the pics are of use to you?

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Ive only attached a few of the pics as samples because I'm currently in the beer garden rehearsing Oktoberfest?

    Alan,

Thanks so much - they are tremendous. Any extra information would of course be welcome - but don't go out of your way for me. At the moment I am still working on the corridor / outer section of the main bedroom. Gee it is slow work. Trying to get a lot of detail into it. I have put up a mirror in the corridor. Got a mirror from the reject shop and it was surprising real glass. So I have cut it to size and it's come up pretty well.
    May have some photos tomorrow.

    THANKS again

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

I have been working on the corridor / Royal Bedroom - outer walls. This has given me the confidence to work on all my rooms in modules. The partition walls will be taken out and detailed and then will eventually be secured to the outer walls of the carriage.

The amount of detail you can get involved with is limitless. I thought I would be onto other areas by now,but when you get into it - you can always add something extra.

I made up a mirror along the corridor. Bought a cheap mirror from a $2 shop and glass cut it to size and then framed it. You can see a bit of it in the 3rd photo.

This build also lets you get into stuff you have never done before - Gee I am glad I wasn't a wallpaperer in my working life. I am sure some people love it - not for me though.

The flower pedestals I turned in the wood lathe. Then decided they needed gold trim. This is gold ribbon. The top is red felt. The Vases were turned on the lathe and given a metallic gold paint. The flowers are paper and then wired into the vase. The whole pedestal assembly is now one piece (used 5 minute araldite)

The surrounds of the door - I am happy with. Again it is a ribbon I found at Spotlight. Cathie loves going there with me so it's a big WIN / WIN situation.

My next step will probably pull everything apart and tip the chasis over and complete the air receiver - slack adjustor - bogie connection.

Once that is done I won't be able to turn the carriage over again.

    All the Best

    Keith

    So much detail.
The flower pedestals may need to be secured to the floor so they do not tip over.

You may need to put the car over the pit so you can work on the undergear. Much easier if you can work on it with the chassis upside down, but be careful that you do not knock over the vases and flowers. I would imagine that it will be a multi person job to rotate, so take care and we look forward to your next post.

Who needs virtual reality when you can have the real deal thanks to Keith, the detail you are producing is second to none.
You could use this to produce a period movie and no one would be any the wiser x100

    Hi all,

Eventually everything will be secured and nothing will have an opportunity of falling over.

The chasis when lifted off the bogie is not that heavy - but will take care. I will photograph the subframe gear when complete. Looking at a small vacuum system I can make up to dust through the windows when the carriage is complete. Note - I don't vacuum the house though
    Cathie's a darling

Thanks for the comments - loving the work - however its very slow and very different to the loco

    Regards

    Keith

This might be a bit bulky to hold and put through windows, but might be adaptable.

    Thanks Kevin,

Looks excellent. Good to see we might be getting a few puns back in the system
