First up can I say thanks to everyone who's been sending me PM's and emails about the Brough.
It's been a great help and in amongst all the info I found just what I needed!.

It may not look like much but it's a good start to getting the frame made.

    IMG_1899.jpg

At the moment the engine plates are made of MDF as their just rough patterns.
Once I'm happy with everything I'll cut them from steel.
The piece of MDF across the top will help me position the backbone.

I wont say there hasn't been a fair bit of "Duck Fudging" going on to get the to the right angles.
But I finally got within a degree or two of the Real McCoy!.

From here I'll fit the backbone and cut the steel engine plates before fitting the steering throat.

Cheers and thanks again for all the help.

I've got some more of the frame done.
Thing's where made easier when fletty found a sketch of 1925 frame, and emailed it to me.
It's pretty low res and hard to read, but with some squinting there's a lot of detail in it.

I've welded in the back bone and set the steering throat.
Don't mind the front forks (there from my old 1920 Harley) I put them on to check the alignment of the frame.

    IMG_1995.jpg

The 1926 Brough used Harley forks.
But after having a good look I can see there's quite a few changes made to the forks between 1920 and 26.
So I'll make a new set for the Brough.
The 1926 version of the forks will bring the front wheel back a good inch closer the engine.
Which will give me a 985mm wheelbase pretty much spot on 2/3 scale of the original.

I have to admit it's nice to see that everything seems to look as if it's going to go together pretty well.
I know it doesn't look like there's much there, but the length and the height is right.
So all I need do now is fill in the blanks!.

    Cheers
    Trev.

Nah, in typical Trev fashion it is 2/3 of the flag of the Isle of Man and is symbolic of racing 2/3 scale motor bikes in the Isle of man TT?

It's only a shadow board for a few minutes each day when the sun comes through the skylight at the right angle Charlie.
I think fletty's closer to having it right, although in truth it's more likely symbolic of my 2/3 commitment to having a tidy shed!.

But it's probably time I just except the fact that I'm "really" messy worker and get on with it.
I'll just try and keep the parts of the shed clean that are in frame when I take a photo of the Brough.

As for the rest I'll just think of it as a "Free Form Art Installation" or in other words a pile of rubbish!.

    Cheers

Slow progress on the frame but I'm happy with the way it's going.
I've built the base of the frame and put the plates that carry the gearbox and magneto in place.

    IMG_2367.jpg

The PVC taped around the backbone will be glued and fiberglassed in place later.
It will get the backbone looking the right diameter.
I couldn't find a chair leg the right size.

I've needed to make some alterations to a couple of the engine parts to get everything to fit.

    IMG_2371.jpg IMG_2373.jpg

The top of the gear selector was a little to tall, so I've shortened it.
A slightly more major alternation is needed to the chain cover which came up a bit short.

I'm running out of material to finish the frame at the moment.

    IMG_2376.jpg

But the legs of chair I sit on while working are pretty much spot-on!
Oh well it looks like I'll be standing in the shed for a few days until I get a new chair!.

    Cheers

    Love your work as always.

What a classy looking bench. Looks a bit different than the one you had at Scamander

Pinch one of the wooden leg seats in the house to sit on mate

    Regards

    Charlie

Surely Trev, After living in the area for 6months you would have sussed out all the good spots for your supplies [arts and junk] along with recycle yards if not dumps...Peter

PS - Seems ashame to use a good chair....

The work bench is a bit swish isn't it!.
It was Tayne's idea and a real good one, it's just the right height for me and has lots of draws to hind the junk in when I take a photo!.

As for the "use a chair from the house" you know damn well there aren't any, nor a kitchen table or a lounge suite!.
There is a barstool at the breakfast counter though, just in case we have company over!.

We've been living in Tassie for a year now, the first six months in Scamander and the second in St. Helens.
Which is pretty much the same place as their only 20 kilometres apart.

I think everyone knows how much I love it down here "I wouldn't be anywhere else for quids".
But when it comes to recycling there is little to none.
Which came as a real surprise to me!.
Pretty much everything just goes to landfill.
The landfill themselves are run by private company's and with OH&S rules are a big No No!.

Still you do the best you can, so the chair in the shed is fair game I'm afraid Peter.
Besides if you enlarge the picture you can see the support between the front legs is broken.
All's fair in love, war and building Brough's out of whatever you can find!.

    Cheers

In the 1960's in Brisbane were I grew up, my dad would take one small load to the dump early on a Sunday morning BUT also bring one home!!!
Recycling isn't new just remembered and restarted as we used to pretty well recycle everything in the 1960's and into the 1970's....
Damn shame we have to have programs & education to do what was just part of everyday life....
and "OHS" is an acronym for OUT of HAND STUPIDITY ....

I grew up in very much the same vein (Good Times) and I couldn't agree more with your last line.

What say we go for a ubeaut modern Brough and add some aerodynamics!.

    IMG_2382.jpg IMG_2381.jpg

I was given the cowling a while back by some folks who thought I maybe able to do something with it.
In time I'll use it to make a gravity bike, down hill at a hundred kilometres an hour!.
I'll enjoy building it but I wont be riding it, I'm way to old for that kinda malarkey!

I got some real work done yesterday and this morning.
I've made the metal engine plates and glad to say they fit well.

    IMG_2385.jpg IMG_2384.jpg IMG_2383.jpg

I also added the second of the cross braces to the bass of the frame, and put the bends into the tubes to get them rising to the rear wheel.
Not having a jig for the frame the bits and pieces on the bench are what I've used to try and keep it in alignment.
Minus the Siegley planes their what I work on restoring when I want a break from the Brough.
I'm having great fun with it all!.

    Cheers
    Trev.
