Today I glued and nailed in the shelves

    image.jpg

ran it over the router table with a 1/2" round over bit.

    image.jpg

Gave it a quick sand with 240 grit on the random orbital sander and then used some timbermate wood filler to fill up any little holes or gaps.

Next I resawed some western red cedar because I wanted some 6mm contrasting timber for the drawers.

    image.jpg

Used my my rocker box joint jig to join them up

    image.jpg

Glued one set up, this will make 2 drawers (I will cut them in half once dry)

A little sanding and the some runs over the table saw to cut the drawers to height. To say I am happy would be an understatement. This is starting to really take shape and the red cedar contrasts beautifully with the pine.

I had to wait for a rebate bit to turn up from my friendly carbitool dealer in canberra, then I cut a rebate into the inside base of each, drawer, and cut a 4mm ply floor for each drawer, need to glue them up then I will move onto making some handles.

This is looking really nice! I love the contrasting timber colours.

It's been a while since I last worked on the studio pencil case, but have had some time to finish it off this week. I made the pencil trays and laminated some birds eye maple and Purple Heart to make some handles.

Good to see it's still progressing along. Love the two-tone handles, and the pencil grooves are just making me salivate. Very neat job. I was going to suggest some padding along the top/bottom ends of the drawer, but unlike a small pencil case, you aren't going to be carrying this thing around, so the padding probably isn't necessary.

Thanks. It won't be carried around so no padding needed )
Just glued the handles on and will be final sanding and wipe on poly this weekend.
It has been a bit more than a weekender, that's for sure.

I love those handles, with the beautiful sheen and the grain texture. The purpleheart almost looks like a velvet insert. Great job.

I love the cabinet and the pencil drawers. Dislike the handles - they are not a match. The purpleheart clashes with the other woods and looks odd. Better to have a simple handle (same style) in one wood. Not a fan of racing stripes.
