The only reason the welding looks good is because you can't see it.
All of my rubbish welds are cover with PVC and Bodyfiller.

This is the horror that lies beneath.

    IMG_3392.jpg

All the black marks are from heating the PVC over a candle flame.
Thank goodness for bodyfiller and sandpaper!.

I've got the frame pretty much done and put a coat of primer on it.
Although it needs a lot more sanding and finishing it's looking the part.

    IMG_3422.jpg IMG_3429.jpg

The motor fits very well, but there's not a lot of wiggle room left.

    IMG_3432.jpg

After the trip to Symmons Plains next weekend I think I'll have a go a making the oil tank and then maybe the petrol tank.

    Cheers
    Trev.

Frame is looking great Trev. I have not been near the shed for nearly 2 weeks sitting on a dinning room chair for most of that.

Well have gotten as much done on the Brough as I can before the trip to Symmons Plains on the weekend.
The last thing I did was to re-join the primary drive chain cover after having found it to be a bit to short originally.

    IMG_3483.jpg IMG_3482.jpg

The reason for the "OOPS" happening in the first place was that I'm making use of things I find.
In this case the two sprockets I used on the clutch assembly are from a 12 speed bike.
The diameter of the larger sprocket that connects from the clutch back to the crankcase is a little less that 2/3 scale of the real deal.
Still with a little bit of Duck Fudging I think I've worked around the problem pretty well.

Now all I need to do to get ready for the weekend is to give the Indian a good clean and we should be right to go!.

    Cheers
    Trev.

    Default Symmons Plains Day One

I had great fun at the first day of the vintage motorcycle meeting at Symmons Plains yesterday.
The first thing was to setup the Indian and the Brough display.

    IMG_3982.jpg

A lot of the day was taken up with talking to people about my work.
But I found sometime to have a look at the racing action and the bikes on display around the paddock.

Here's a few of the photos.

    IMG_3667.jpg IMG_3721.jpg IMG_3748.jpg IMG_3751.jpg

You can see these boys aren't joking about racing and they race hard!.

    IMG_3752.jpg IMG_3819.jpg IMG_3864.jpg

    Running repairs during the day.

    IMG_3928.jpg IMG_3907.jpg IMG_3934.jpg IMG_3931.jpg

I hadn't seen sidecars racing before "WOW".

    IMG_3995.jpg IMG_3987.JPG

    "CLASSIC".

Time to get myself sorted and back to the track.

With having the display setup and all I'd like to say I'm working.
But who am I kidding really?.

    Cheers
    Trev.

    Default Symmons Plains Day Two

Another great day at the vintage bike races.
Although I'm going to have my normal gripe and say when you rope something off why the heck do people think they can just step over them.
    Still no damage was done!.

The vast majority of people over the two days where great, and seemed to enjoy seeing my work.
As specially when they realised what it was made of.

There was more great racing although I didn't get to see quite as much as the day before.

I know one forum member will be pleased to see a Morgan was there.

    IMG_4149.jpg IMG_4155.jpg IMG_4161.jpg

Brilliant little thing and goes like the powers of (feel free to add your own colourful word there).
I'm not to sure how fast he was going down the back, but we all hear it hit the rev limiter.

All up a great couple of days and I really enjoyed it.
But truth be known I'm quite happy to get back to working on the Brough.

    Cheers
    Trev.

There wasn't prizes for those of us just displaying.
It was all about the racing!.
So no prizes but a good weekend.

My plan of spending the day with the camera came to diddly squat.
It hasn't stopped raining all day.
So I found myself back in the shed working on the Brough (not such a bad thing).

I started making the oil tank.
It's a tricky little thing with lots of angles and a couple of recess, a large one on the right to work around the exhaust and a smaller one on the left.

    IMG_4302.jpg IMG_4300.jpg IMG_4299.jpg

    IMG_4298.jpg IMG_4297.jpg IMG_4296.jpg

It looks like it will do the job with some shaping, and there's a few bits and pieces to be added to it.
The good thing is it's the right fit.
With a wheel in place I've got the clearance I need for the mudguard.

    Cheers
    Trev.

More work done on the oil tank.
I thought the tank looked a little wide to scale so I've cut about a quarter inch out of it.
I'm much happier with the way it sites under the tubes now.
It also gave me a little more clearance around the exhaust.
You can see that I needed to cut some of the bottom the gusset away to get the right fit.

    IMG_4519.jpg IMG_4518.jpg IMG_4521.jpg

I've made the oil tank primer and put a boss in place at the bottom for the tank tap.
The primers made from a couple of washers, wooden curtain rod, MDF, a texta and bodyfiller.
The clamp is PVC that I bent into shape over a candle flame.

    IMG_4420.jpg IMG_4422.jpg

The two photos above show how I made the terminal using two washers a texta and some filler.
I'll get on with making the cap and the tap for the tank before cleaning things up and giving it all a coat of primer.

Then it's on to the petrol tank.

    Cheers
    Trev.
