    OGB

That is one of the best picture spreads I have seen on the Forum for quite a while. Not only was there quantity but you also captured the mood and enthusiasm.

    Excellent.

Thank you heaps Bob, They have brought a big smile to an otherwise difficult couple of days....
Makes me wish I was so much better and could have driven down like last year....
Well done sir and well done to all the attendees; in the most, we are fortunate to have such a top mob of blokes & ladies on the forum....
I remember the beautiful tool chest that Dirk & Peter made for Dave along with Trevor's beautifully frames "Blue Wren" photo for Dave from Trevor & Keith....
Dave has certain made some inroads into the repairs and upgrades over the past year and the sunrise & sunsets are still magnificent....
    AGAIN THANK YOU.... Cheers, Peter

    Bob,
What a great set of pictures.
It didn't feel like an action packed weekend,
but then the pictures tell a different story.
On a side note is just me or should Gab take up a new career as a hand model.
I also sommelier swear to try to not fall asleep so early in the evening next year.
So I to ,can take some almost great shots.

    Cheers Matt

That's a great write up Bob!!...
There is one piece missing I think. I was too scared to take any photos of it, as I only had my phone !!

Oldgreybeard also ran a tutorial on the Saturday night trying to impart a little more photography knowledge to us louts.... He had a great presentation coving the three main effects of exposure. Shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
    (I was paying attention!)
It was very informative and for someone who doesn't really understand photography at all - easy to follow and quite interesting. Thanks Bob!!

I had a blast of a weekend, and a massive thanks to all who attended. I'd say all who demonstrated or offered assistance with food but I'd say everyone pitched in to make it a ripper weekend.

I hope Brendan doesn't suffer as badly as I do with the silky oak. Sure, I knew it was bad for me - but I wasn't actually working on the piece!! Guess I better start thinking a bit more seriously about the fact that I'm not invincible..... Itchy eyes, slight swelling and small wash on the arms. No more silky oak demos for me!

Was great to catch up with the familiar faces, and even better to put more faces to regular forum names that pop up.

I had a dig around home and pulled out my thread chasing gear. I purchased it when I first bought a lathe with grand aspirations..... This will be the first time I actually try them out. They're 20 TPI so going with theories discussed on the weekend, they should be a good starting point. I just need to manufacture a 'hook' tool to cut the relief on the internal thread .

Dave and Rachael, you're hospitality was second to none once again and I've got my thinking hat on for next year.

    Thanks all!
    Gab

P.s. whilst my 'presentation' was a little under the radar, I thank all who listened to my titbits of information. I'm not a public speaker, but enjoy the intimacy of showing a few friendly faces my way of doing a few things....Will work on it for Dooen 2018

The members at the GTG, might remember my mentioning a tray stand I made for finishing my pens with Micromesh. The tray is what the meat comes in from the supermarket, so readily available, when it gets dirty throw it out and grab another. For those that don't have access to be able to make one, send me a PM with the size of the shaft that goes in the banjo, for me to make one. Postage cost only.
Well here it is, this is the underside details, where it goes into the banjo.

Took all day to get enough signal for another reply lol.

I might try your idea with a wooden post 😉

I was telling some of those at Dooen and Dave about this series of videos about building a cabin in Alaska and in it he makes a spoon using a small axe/hatchet so I thought I would put up the link for all to see. There are several videos telling the story of the building and how this man settled into living on his own and just making do with what he had. Enjoy.

According to my father, back in mid to late 40's, he had a cabin overlooking the USA border. How I'd find out if it was still there, I don't know.
Don't think I could handle the cold though.
