Thought I'd reply with a bit of an update. I haven't had a chance to work on the chair over the past 6 weeks. We had a beautiful little girl at the start of February and she's keeping me very busy! Once everything settles I'll continue working on it.
Cheers

Cheers, Ian"The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.. it can't be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.
And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better"

Congratulations to you and your wife, Andy, and welcome to the next phase of your life. You have it all in front of you now. Enjoy every minute of it.
Some worldly advice from an old parent. My experience with three daughters would suggest that when she gets to 13 years of age, you put her out on agistment in someone else's paddock, and get her back when she turns about 22 yrs. That's about when they start to become human again, returning to normalityregards,
Dengy

WIP - Maloof inspired rocker
Thank you for all the comments. The last 3 months have gone so fast with plenty of early morning wake ups!
I obviously didn't get to finish the chair in time. I fussed over the seat for about a month towards the end of last year trying to figure out how I'd shape the front (pommel). I'd rather take my time than rush it and not be happy.
So I haven't worked on the chair for almost 4 months now but things have settled enough at home to get a few hours in the workshop. I'm hoping to get into the shop this week and rather than fuss over the seat shape, I'll glue the front and rear legs to the seat and begin sculpting and blending them into the seat. Then I'll come back to the seat shape later.
So this is where I'm up to now. Legs and arms are roughly sculpted and dry fitted. I'll glue the legs up next and once dry, begin blending in the leg to seat transition.

I also got a rotary angle sander to help sculpt the chair. It can be fitted with various grits (I'll use 26 grit) and it grinds away wood really fast. But what I really like is that it has dust extraction which the galahad wheels fitted to a grinder doesn't have.
