For starters, Festool doesn't sell direct to Australian retailers. The company sells to a distributor who in turn supplies Australian retailers. I have no knowledge of whether a similar arrangement exists in the UK. Also, do you know the address of Axminister's London store? I can't see one listed on their web site.
As a comparison, after allowing for taxes, the price of a Domino 500 in Calgary (Canada) is about $200 less than it is in Sydney.
but you may care to consider that the minimum wage here in Alberta is about $3 per hour less than it is in Australia, and based on things like the scarcity of multi-level shopping centers, the width of shopping isles, and the larger floor area of stores selling the same sorts of stuff as those in Australia, retail rents must be considerably less than they are in Sydney or Melbourne.
But it would be interesting to know why the prices from Axminister, for almost every comparison tool, are as low as they are.regards from Alberta, Canada

well, your link contains the answer. Apart from Zurich, all the other top 10 expensive cities are an order of magnitude bigger than Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.
From the linked article
The top 10 most expensive retail markets:
1. Hong Kong
2. New York
3. Paris
4. London
5. Sydney
6. Zurich
7. Tokyo
8. Melbourne
9. Moscow
10. Brisbane
at the end of the day the only people doing the shafting is us.regards from Alberta, Canada

If Australian retailers were for example selling the domino at $100 more than the Uk then i would simply buy here, but $500 is about 20 hours work for the average guy. I recently bought a dado blade for $150 including post from amazon. Retail price here was $250 plus post.

Australian retailers are not always setting exorbitant prices for their goods. Today I picked up a set of beadlock pro joinery kit from Carbatec, plus a few extras. Rockler who owns beadlock, sells the kit for equiv of AUD 202 + postage. Carbatec was selling it for $194 and when I got there I got an extra 10% off because of their thursday sale. Beadlock is not domino, but it still does mortise and floating tenons and I even got the router bits that make the tenon sticks. I think it's more of a Festool problem than that of our retailers.

Yeah I wouldn't blame the retailers for Festool pricing in AU, blame Festool. From what I hear they set the retail pricing for the region and the stores have to abide by it, they can't discount them even if they wanted to. Similar to Apple stores.

So why don't we get these endless (and boring) complaints about Apple? Judging by the number of upside down and sideways photos uploaded to this forum there are probably more forum users using "iThingies" than Festool users, yet nobody ever moans about Apple prices and retail price mantenance.
Why is that?

Probably because this forum isn't centred around mobile phones. I work in the tech industry and trust me, there are a ton of people who make the same complaints about Apple's pricing and strategies.

Personally I think this thread has moved well away from it's original intention and falling down the bottomless pit of despair about the prices we pay relative to other parts of the world. Start a new thread on the topic so I can duly ignore it. The topic has been done to death.

And on that note we will now put this to bed until the next exciting episode.
