    Kevin,

Thanks for your comments - happy now that the outer frame section looks OK.

Very little data to run on in this build. Seriph1 has sent me some excellent photos - thanks mate .

There is very little information on the internet regarding the tender - most tender details are hidden by the outer walls of the tender in the photos that I have.

    Best Regards

    Keith

    Steve,

I have tried coal in the past. The lumps are too big and when I try to break it down - it crumbles.

I will photograph some of the "coal" I made for the "Lion" and post it tomorrow.

    Thanks for the suggestion

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

Here is some tender coal I made for my Lion locomotive. Scoria soaked in paint /water mixture and then dried.

    Regards

    Keith

Excellent. Do you add anything to give it a 'sheen' ?

    Steve

I use a gloss acrylic - but only because it was the only black paint I had in the shed

The dust soon takes the sheen off anyway

Dust isn't an issue here. We live in a near-cleanroom environment [emoji6]

    Hi all,

Decided to continue on the top section of the tender. The prototype has a curved top on the tender.

I got some quad and then marked 6mm on each side (thickness of my tender wall) and then I nailed the lengths to the top of my bench with rounded section face down. I then planed down until I got to the 6mm width lines I marked.

I then drilled in 3 positions on the back and 4 positions on the sides and then araldited in some spiral nails that I had cut the heads off. These are my dowels.

Then marked up positions of the dowels on the tender walls and drilled a little oversize (to accommodate a bit of extra araldite). Filled the holes with araldite and also PVA glue on the quad and mitre joins. Then pushed it all together.

When dry - a bit of bodyfiller also around the joins - then sanded and primed.

    Happy with the outcome

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi Guys,

Thanks you all for the kind words.

I am no "Master Model maker" - only trying my best with some tips from the real Master. Thanks Kevin - really appreciated.

Loving the build though - "it's great fun and that's what counts" - a quote from Trev. (think of him every day)

Hope you can get out in your shed soon Derek. Your Wood Turning is FABULOUS.

    Best Regards

    Keith
