my thoughts for what they are worth:
Smaller venue so seemed crowded - lots of school kids
Carbies had smaller area (or at least it seemed so)
a number of stands absent - most notable being McJings. no Vesper either.
Had a yarn with Clenton - he said that interest was good and sees the show as good publicity and why change a winning formulae. His African Olive tools looked really speccy.
Terry Gordon has been trialing a couple of new vices and expects the production versions will be released before Christmas. They look pretty robust and the one that tilts and swivels looks especially interesting. Made out of pretty solid hunks of aluminium.
The timber area looked bigger and poor Greg Ward seemed run off his feet. He managed to convince me to part with my hard earned for a bit of Mackay Cedar
sorry I posted before I'd finished
Will I go next year - probably as I go for the odd bit of wood and to meet up with fellow woodies whom I saw a number of today. Sorry I missed the communal lunch
and this year I didn't bother taking my camera so no picciesregards

Good day out!!
Well ladies and gents I had a good day out as my head ache & sore feet are telling me.
I surely missed the FORUM having a stand as it was a great focal point to catchup with and meet forum members as well as promote the forum.
I struggled with the crowded smaller pavilion as with so many schools along with wood clubs attending it was so hard to wander and just browse the vendors or demos, but that' me.
In commenting about the schools attendance, i love that the teachers actually take the kids to such an eye opening event along with the challenge, BUT this year the beautiful TAFE woodwork display was missing which for in the past has been a highlight.
The first show I went to back in the early 2000's at Homebush, the variety of vendors, displays and general array was 3-4 times bigger almost so big you had to return the following day just to make it around the show.
I enjoyed the brief catchup at Boutique Timber with a good few of the forum members as well as bumping into a few whilst maneuvering the hall.
Personally I will always try to attend, even if just to catchup with friends and forum mates.
Enjoy the show ladies and gent BUT if you didn't please be constructive in you comments as we need and want woodworking events to both continue if not thrive.
Cheers, crowie

I can't help feeling that there's an element of "The Emperor has no clothes" about the Sydney Wood show. I didn't go this year, but I had already decided that last year when it took only 2 hours to see around it, and a pleasant few hours socialising after that. Nor am I in the market for any purchases atm (and last weekend fulfilled my social needs - thanks fletty).
Getting smaller and smaller is not a good sign, nor is the lack of Forum Stand - diminishing returns and all that.

As I am no longer in Sydney it is very hard to attend the show due to family commitments. Maybe next year the timing will be better for me to attend.

Timber, timber everywhere...
As Crowie said, it was a good day out. Meeting fellow forumites at Boutique Timbers site was a highlight, but I must admit the cramped conditions until about 1.30pm when the school kids left wasn't ideal.
I didn't realise until I returned home that Timbercon weren't there, and I knew McJing's and Stan Ciglinski's Billinudgel Woodworks with his saw races wouldn't be there, much to the disappointment of the school kids. Stan's set-up was always a highlight of the show, especially on the weekends when the younger kids were there with Dad.
Hare & Forbes haven't had a stall for quite a few years, probably due to the floorspace requirements to display their bulky machinery and subsequent cost, and I noticed that Trend Timbers didn't have as big a display area for their timbers as in other years.
At previous shows, I really enjoyed the displays of finished work by HSC and TAFE students, but this aspect was severely reduced at this years show due to space restrictions.
I heard one radio advert prior to the show, and didn't notice any signage around the Homebush precinct. I did hear a radio advert for the food and wine expo being held at Darling Harbour this weekend, along with multiple TV and radio adverts for the Craft & Quilt show at Darling Harbour. Last year, the food and wine show was next door to the WWWS at Homebush, looks like they have made the move elsewhere, maybe due to venue pricing?
I am going to the show again today, mainly for the social aspect, and will keep a look-out for the general vibe of the place in respect to vendors sales activity and the quantity of items in the parcel pick-up area as a gauge to the success of the show.
There certainly wasn't any shortage of timber for sale, ranging from pen blanks and veneers to a massive slab at Greg Ward's stand, and just about anything else in between. Plenty of projects about to start judging by the number of vehicles loading up their spoils towards the end of the day.
I'll be back next year, hopefully to a bigger venue with more vendors.

I went today, and had a good day there. Yes, it was smaller than previous years, but I still managed to spend quite a bit. The school exhibits were really good. Some quality workmanship there. Carbatec had a 30% off special on Bessey clamps if you bought 4 or more. Couldn't resist that, so my clamp collection has grown a bit. I don't think it's possible to have too many clamps.
Got a collection of timber from the different vendors. Some nice boxes will be created from that lot, over time.

Also got a new Metabo drill kit from VEK, and ordered a #5 1/2 plane from Jim Davey.
Ran into a couple of forumites, and generally had an enjoyable day.
If you've got a couple of hours to spare, I think it's worth visiting. We need to support this show, or it will disappear.
Cheers,
ajw

Good day today. Smaller than last year's (my first) but certainly not disappointing. Great wood on offer and some fine old tools c/o TTTG and Ben's Best.
I managed to find a great long spindle piece of Gidgee c/o Moons Milling and very happy with my other purchases the above mentioned vintage tool sellerd, Trend Timbers and Vek.
I'm only starting out so event like these feel epic to me! Lots to buy, learn and great blokes to chat to and meet. Invaluable.

Hopefully next year will be at least as good if not better.

The DC is working well. Fletty won't answer. He has left the forum for good.

No he hasn't. He's had a change of heart, thankfully.
