You can't rush concrete??!!
You can't rush concrete??!!
Alright that's a very unusual heading for a wooden toy build!
But my middle grandson has been asking and asking for the past 2.5 to 3 years, ever since he first saw the plans, for "pa" to make a "concrete truck" from the Wood Magazine Construction Series.
Yes, every time I finished on wooden toy I'd be asked again, "pa" can you make a "concrete truck" for us to play with!
I kept saying "pa" doesn't have a wood lathe to turn the agitator.
With the persistence of this little man "pa" finally gave in sending an SOS to the forum wood turners requesting assistance.
So FIRSTLY, THANK YOU to Rod, Derek and Keith for there kind and generous offers; so many top folk on this forum.
I need some assistance with a woodturning part for a wooden toy for my grandson pleas
Rod was oh so quick with turn in the shed that 2 agitators arrived in the post this week.
Handy is over the moon as we are making 2 concrete trucks along with a flat bed truck which came as part of the plans.
As usual it's not a peter bilt wooden toy truck without modifications and personalization to make in both interesting and playable.
We've spent a good 8 hours so far preparing & sizing timber, cutting & re-cutting blanks and starting the profiling of all the pieces.
This concrete truck is one big truck.
Cheers, crowie

Hi Crowie,
This build is close to my heart being an agi driver for 26 years. That's a big American rig you're building and I thought a comment on the booster axle may be of interest. On the road the wheels on the BA assisted in carrying the load and keeping you legal, but because they're not driving and because they extend the length of the truck they are unhelpful once you're on the building site. The axle is raised out of the way to overcome these problems.
I'll be watching this build with interest and you can tell your grandson that I'm pretty envious of him.
Cheers,
Geoff.

That's one busy smurf!
I'm happy to pay travel, meals, accommodation and fair remuneration once he has finished your build, if he wants a working holiday across the ditch.

G'Day Geoff,
The Wood Magazine is a USA publication, so yes, there Construction Series would be based on American trucks and machinery; great series of vehicles of which I've made a good few.
Thank you for the explanation on why the funny looking extra boggy is added to the rear of the truck.
It is in the plans but I'm thinking about leaving it off to make the toy more playable for little boys.
Would appreciate yours or others consideration upon whether to or not , thank you!!!
THANK YOU to all the of kind word of encouragement, YES I'm enjoying the challenge of the build.
Today was Neighbourhood Visitor Program day so spent the morning with the old gent I've recently started visiting for a cuppa, morning tea and a chat.
This afternoon was spent remaking exhaust stacks after a drilling error, can't blame Handy as I was getting tired yesterday and mucked up.
Shaped the profile of the water tank cradle and glued the trough pivot block into the base of the pedestals.
Only other part of the project was to run the 1/8" router bit around all the finished edges.
Tomorrow morning is medical appointment but hopefully I'll get a little shed time in the afternoon.
Cheers, Peter

How far are the twin wheels apart Crowie? I'd be worried about little fingers and wheels close together.

G'Day Peter,
There's a good amount of free space between the double boggies [drawing inserted]
and if not as I've already extended the chassis another 1/2" will work.
Also with previous toys I've made that have similar setups, it hasn't been an issue and they've had hours of play..
Cheers, Peter

Hi Crowie,
That rear axle set up is uniquely American and I wouldn't imagine to ever see one like that here. No use importing them because their Agi's rotate in the opposite direction to ours. So to leave them off would be appropriate for Aus.
Cheers,
Geoff.

Crowie
interesting
Didn't see your post on concrete mixing drums until now (ie via the link you posted up above)). The family and I have been away and am now back in Aus
Those drums are something I could have done quite easily for you and if you need any such in the future please get in contact.regards

Sorry Bruce, Watching concrete dry/set is like painting & watching it dry!!
Making hand made wooden toys is so much more fun!!
That's what I like and enjoy about the forum Keith, people helping people in whatever way the can from encouragement and advice to actual items!!
Thank you Geoff for sharing your knowledge and now I understand the rear dolly setup BUT as you said, never seen anything like that here, so it'll be left off....
