Now comes a long drawn out process of painting the pin stripe test looks good. And the first of the paint does as your good lady said brings it to life. Top workmanship

Weathering is not always easy to get right as you need to take a very close look at what is being done and to see where rust would start to appear for example if it is rusting through the weather the likely hood of rust streaks are around protruding items where the rain water goes around these and leaves rust streaks.

I know this from doing the model boats I used some powders of different rust shades and for those that laugh at that statement yes there are different shades of rust.

I know the painting can take some time as when I made the motorbike rocker from start to finish took me 2 months yet the painting took up 3 weeks of that but it is still worth all of the effort as I have seen many a project even turned items ruined by bad finishes and paint work.

Just my .02c but I'd love to see it in pristine condition like the 1:1 at York.

Just for you Keith but don't let anyone else see them

Sorry they are a little dusty in these photo's as they had been in storage. I could not get the submarine out as that is 5' 6" long and heavy.

    Hi All,

Gave the front section another coat and let dry. Then I started my pin striping. I checked around on the internet and I found a local art supplier who has acrylic paint pens. You can get then in varying width tips - I decided to get fairly fine ones. I decided on four different colours and that should be sufficient to pin stripe my locomotive.
I make up my own templates out of 3mm MDF and bevel the underneath side so that I don't inadvertently touch and smudge the wet paint.

The good thing is that the pens are only $5.50 each. Takes away the need for masking etc.

Now started to fully dismantle the loco - making sure I mark up each component and also take photos

    Regards

    Keith

Like watching the build again, which is better than watching paint dry.

As I said before the front looks great. and watching as you progress with the paint job.

I used a sharpie pen for the lines on this train I know not the same build class as yours

Now I understand how you get all those great details just right, it's with that mini miter saw on the deck of you train.

    Hi All,

A bit "Bitter/Sweet" and a tad sad. The locomotive has been fully dismantled to allow me to paint all components. The small stuff is in plastic bags and hopefully I have tagged it well enough. Took quite a few photos whilst dismantling so I can hopefully get it all back together again

The tender is still assembled - didn't want to confuse myself too much.

Didn't realise there are so many parts

    Regards

    Keith

Any chance you can get a huge white sheet and lay them all out in order to photograph them? They look wonderful.

I found it quite surprising how many pieces there are in a build I would hate to count what you have in this build. Like you I build in modules like on the half track the back is only resting there to aid applying the finish later.

The photo of the parts all laid out is very impressive and can see why it will take some time to paint and then reassemble good luck well not really the right words as you certainly don't need luck with your level of workmanship.
