Hi All,

Getting stuck into painting up the tender. Not as many components to pull apart as the main loco.

Anyway, I was concerned about the numbering on my loco. I tried making up decals and putting them on some MDF I had painted in the "Brunswick Green" of the loco.
Didn't work very well. The paint background "came through" the ink I had used on the decal and could hardly see the number.

I went into "Spotlight". I get my materials wherever I can. I went into there scrapbooking section and found some letters and numbers that were pretty much the correct size.

I modified the letters to suit with a scalpel and then painted with my "Super Gold" spray paint.

Fitted to both sides of the cabin. Reckon they look OK.

G'day All,

Pulled all the tender apart and then started my painting.

The chasis is painted in "Domino". The tyre rims of wheels in "Bluescope Ironstone". Majority of paints I use I get made up as sample pots from Bunnings.
However, the "Brunswick Green" is a Cabots brand which I got because I definitely didn't want any variation in the main colour scheme of the loco and tender.
Tender has 5 coats on it now. Will let it dry for at least 24 hours before I commence any pinstriping. The brake shoe assemblies have been painted and they now have to be refitted. Should only require a small amount of dismantling to fit these.

Happy how it's coming along. Starting to get a bit excited about the next build "Stephenson's Rocket" but probably another 2 months work left on the Stirling (Completing tender and then making tracks, ties and ballast and base assembly)

You certainly have plenty of patience Keith compared to me. I sometimes want to go faster as the end gets close and have to hold myself back and my builds are no where near as long as yours.

The paint job is top notch and yes waiting for paint to dry can be a pain especially when you have to do it in the workshop and can't just go and start making something else.

Once the pin stripes are on it will bring it all together

Great to hear from you - My Lamps are a bit different aren't they May have to rework. Then I will have 2 different types of lamps. I will finish off the tender first and reconsider my lamps then. (Good thing is that they are totally removable)

As said - really glad to hear from you and totally enjoy yourself

I got to Shildon yesterday but the Stirling is now at York and I won't get there until Friday and/or Saturday? It's not on the blog yet ....... mostly because my B&B is in a pub in the Yorkshire Dales and the combination of the availability of Theakston's Yorkshire Old Peculiar and the lack of availability of WIFI is not conducive to blog writing!
There are several different styles of lamps but, all of the ones I have seen here at heritage railways and museums, have the front bezel in polished/patinated brass?

I have decided to redo the lanterns on the Stirling - already got some plans underway. A few sketches being done. They will be similar in design to the old lamps I had but taller and not as long. They will also have the "brass" ring

Did some pinstriping on the tender today - it is "nerve wracking" stuff when the lines are about 700mm long. But it came up OK. Pouring rain today so the Stirling didn't get out of the shed to have it's photo taken. Will post a photo tomorrow - weather permitting (forecast is a lot better)

I have pretty much decided not to have the railing along the top of the tender. It looks a lot more "streamlined" without it. Will need to body fill the holes and sand back and repaint.

Love this locomotive build - different challenges and changes everyday.
