    Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for your comments.

Yes - it does make a difference doing all 4 at once. Even though the are some slight differences they are all generally the same if done all together.

There are a number of British Steam Preservation shows on TV at the moment and the lanterns are all the taller version compared to what I had. I really like the update and although I didn't like the white colour originally - it really adds some contrast in colour. Thanks to you and Fletty for the lantern photos.

Regarding the D4 - at this stage probably not in updating the lamps. Reason is it is an old build and I like comparing what I did in the past compared to what I do now. As you said - reckon this is an improvement - so like to compare the old and new to inspire for the future - if that makes sense.

Now onto making rail clamps - made up 80 clamp blanks so far - lots of sanding to be done

    Thanks again

    Regards

    Keith

All great fun Keith. Still plenty to keep you busy, some people think that a few sticks this way and a couple of long ones stuck along them and hay presto tracks but not as simple as that. Anyway just off out to learn how to woodturn

    Hi All,

Below are the Rail Clamps I have been making.

I cut the clamps out of pine. I used my table saw to cut all the angles and recesses. I then made up a fixture to hold the pine so that I could cut each clamp at the same length in my bandsaw.

I the sanded and drilled each clamp. I made up boards to hold each of the 80 clamps so I could paint them (Used Bluescope Ironstone - find this is the best colour to use as cast steel)

I use red oxide (from craft shop) as my wash for simulating rust. "Paint" it on and then dry with hot air gun. Have found if you let it air dry naturally - the "rust" is too clumpy.

Now started on the rails. These are out of Tassie Oak. Used the table saw to cut the cross section. Move the fence of the table saw after each cut to get the width I want. Found this method better for me than using a router.

    Regards

    Keith

They had video of snow in Geelong yesterday morning - we are about 15 klm South of Geelong in Torquay.

Derek - you would be used to the cold in the UK

But we get it really hot in summer.

We all have to put up with the weather, but the main thing is we still trundle out to the shed to get stuck into our favourite pastimes - and that is of prime importance

I reckon its better than sitting inside watching TV or even worse - having to go to work (Hi Dallas [Treecycle])

    Regards

    Keith
