Sad to see you go mate, was throughly enjoying those restoration posts!
I haven't experienced that here yet have definitely experienced it in other forums, but as you say the lack of explanation or opportunity to respond can be quite frustrating

Bueller's shed - a noobs journey through vintage machinery
Been thinking about it lately, I’m not done here yet.
Haven’t been sitting idle by any means - jointer is finished and better than new with its helical cutter installed, dust extractor is back up extracting, bought a table saw and also found one of my holy grail machines.

Nice to see you back, and good to see you haven't stopped finding those old lovelies. No shortage of iron there.

Something I forgot to mention yesterday, one thing I don't like about those older school DPs is the belt tensioning mechanism, they're a right PITA to use. On the MW forum Bob Thomas shows a Waldown with cam-lock operated tensioner, one flick loosens the tension and one flick reapplies it - worth a look I reckon.

Bueller's shed - a noobs journey through vintage machinery
Thanks richmond88!
Thanks again for your help yesterday Bob, was good catching up! And that does sound like a much better alternative to the current system, I’ll give it a look.

Good weekend, got a ton finished. The table saw I bought recently came with a 5hp 3-phase motor so that had to go, picked up a Hafco 3hp replacement this week but this needed some work in order for it to fit the saw. No photos but I basically cut and drilled a new mounting plate for the motor and then bolted that to the original mount. Considered welding it but this way I can bolt the original 5hp motor back on in the event that I get 3-phase organised.
Which reminds me! Dad mentioned that he thought the house had 3 phase ages ago (the oven required it) but we found no outlets anywhere. Went investigating yesterday and it turns out the shed has a 100a 415v breaker installed so we should just need outlets wired up and good to go. Not needed at this point but I’ve got plans to check out a 3-phase 4hp bandsaw in the next few weeks so could be sooner rather than later. Big fella too, 28” diameter wheels if I remember rightly. Should be great for resawing timber.
Made more progress on the thicknesser upgrade and clean up today, last weekend I got all the rust off 90% of the moving parts and then today Dad and I got the gear box apart and the helical cutter installed.

Glad to see you back, I love watching you bringing these machines back to life and the depth you go in to here with the restoration is just so fascinating. Your IG took the edge off but wasn't as good as this!

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone [emoji846]
Another good day today, mostly finished with the table saw! Got the new pulley and belts fitted to the motor and wired up a NVR switch. Then I took the surface rust off the top and put down a coat of wax for protection. Still needs the fence and splitter fitting but should be able to knock that off tomorrow. Then back over to the thicknesser!

Boom.
Want to upgrade the fence but I think with a bit more fine tuning it will do the job in the short term. Then I’ll make/buy a Biesemeyer style fence. Otherwise the new motor had no trouble cutting through some 21mm ply I had for the mobile base even with the worn out blade that came with the saw. Happy fella right here!

Yep! Actually watched all the videos on making one of these quite a while ago but I’m leaning towards something pre-made at this stage, the VSC seems like a lot of work considering the price.
