Afternoon all.
My tiny magnetic clutch arrived on Thursday and have just installed in onto the stepper motor shaft. I now need the help of my mate James to install the stepper motor controller, raspberry pie board and hall sensors for the weight sensing cutout function. In the second picture there are two yellow wires emerging out of the magnetic clutch. This bloody expensive ($250!AU) unit disconnects the stepper motor from the clock drive train so the only components that the clock have to turn over are the chain and the 20T cog!. Today i have got it ticking again to see if there is enough power in the clock drive to turn it over. Its been ticking over for 3hrs so far so I guess the answer is yes.

Has it been that long!
Crowie i have fitted a bike free wheeling ratchet cog thing that now seems is not required. Motors it seems will not freewheel so hence a clutch is required. Yes you are welcome to visit when i get done. My plan is to be finished by christmas.
cheers

Hi everyone. The end is in sight.
I have finalised the front of my frame. its now glued sanded and lacquered!. I am considering not using this part of the clock!. I think it looks too heavy. The rear of the frame is next followed by a quick rebuild of the weight boxes.
More soon.

Merry Christmas everyone!
I have finally finished my clock weights. I decided to cut them down from 150 to 100 in height. Each side was 7.3kg these are now 3.6kg each. I have used silky oak and lasercut the box pin. Overall a pain to make and took forever to design and build them but i like the new wooden look. I have also decided to drop the frame I made in the front. It was meant to provide some support but i have decided to use the wall instead.
cheers

The final destinaton?
Hi Everyone its been a while, like dec last year, since I posted.
I have made the dramatic decision to remove my clock from the frame I designed and mount it directly to the wall. I have tried to resolve the frame design to make it complement the whole design but I cannot so the frames gotta go!
The pic of my clock is shown in the front doorway area which is subject to heat and draughts and as such 1 gear has cracked and the clock wont run reliably! So I have decided to re-locate the clock to inside the loungroom where it is out of direct sunlight heat and draughts etc.
I have purchased sheet of 18mm aircraft ply and this will be mounted directly to the wall and painted the same colour as the wall its covering up.
The clock will then be mounted onto the ply. I am still waiting for the electronics to be finished so I can incorporate the motor to lift the weight up.
watch this space.
cheers
Dean.

Hi everyone. Merry christmas.
Just finished another school year and it was great.
I have the weekend to myself and so am into the clock build again. The re-location from the front hallway into the loungroom out of the heat and sunlight has started. I spent the day pulling the clock apart ready to make the upper weight wheels from purplheart timber which is amazing looking, hard and expensive. Spent 6 hours re-doing the cad model and machine files making sure everything was perfect before i begin machining. I have waited a number of years to feel ready enough to push the button. The clock is effectively done save for the installation of the motor to wind the weights.
Pic 1 is of the clock in bits and pic 2 the first half of the upper weight wheels frame. Quite a trick to remember how you did it when so much time has elapsed. Will be done by the end of the weekend ready for the drum sander.
cheers
Dean.

Hi everyone. Just spent the weekend machining the upper weight wheels frame. Finally glued together this afternoon. Just need to drum sand tomorrow to release the inner bits. The joint i used i designed some years ago and I call a trisoloc joint.
This joint is perfectly suited to purple heart and created a great joint. More soon. Dean

Happy new year all.
A quick update on the new location and installation. With the new board in place I have attached the upper weight wheels frame and main frame. Tomorrow I will re-attach the coil housing gears and hopefully the dial and weights. Looks some much nicer with the upper frame in purple hearts and since I lost the ugly but functional frame. More later.
