    Thanks Alan,

I have done a bit of research as well. I have found a book that shows the interior of the carriage.

The stuff I practiced on with my original carriage a couple of years ago may come in handy

Looking forward to having a go at this.

    Hi All,

Been doing a lot of painting. It is slow work on the technique I use. I dab with a small brush which helps prevent paint runs.

Here is a bit of a look on what the Rocket colour scheme will be. Still a number of coats to do on the frame and sides of the tender and then onto the wheels.

    Regards

    Keith

Slow and steady wins the race. In this case a very steady hand will make a nice paint job.
Not sure if that means you have a drink before or after, or before and after.

    Hi All,

A bit more progress on the tender. The wheels have been given 5 coats of paint. Still another couple of coats to go.

The sub chasis frame still needs a couple of coats as well. I have been using "Domino" as my paint choice for the steel work.

I will dismantle it again and give it some more paint

I am quite happy with the progress though. Need to persevere and keep giving it the paint.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi Fumbler,

I will assemble the tender again today and post a photo with the beer can. By the way - I have progressed to full strength beer - will post with a new can

Started a little spray paint work on some of the pipework fittings (polished brass) on the locomotive - happy how it's coming up

    Thanks for your post

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All

As per request - here is a photo of the locomotive and tender with a beer can as a standard to demonstrate the size of my loco and tender.

You can probably see that I have also started to do some spray painting of the "copper" pipework and the "brass" fittings on the locomotive. I am really happy how they are coming up.

The "brass" is White Knight Super Gold and the copper is Dulux Dura Max

    Regards

    Keith

    Thumbs up

Pipe work looks, well too good. It has no tarnish or heat stains, looks clean and new.
That water barrel would hold quite a few cans of bear, or perhaps a wine cask.

The UK is having nice days of 30c, great for an exposed footplate, even if there is no shade.

    Coming up nicely.

    Thanks Kevin,

Yes - I was also wondering about adding "rust" to the underside of the locomotive - not sure or to leave "pristine" - thoughts please

    Regards

    Keith

Do you have the model in "Brand New" condition, or as operated.
This is a difficult question to answer even for a museum. While it is great to have exhibits bright and shiny, any machine of that era that is operated will show sign. A solid fuel engine will have dirt from the fuel and ash. Heat, water and tarnish stains on the brass and copper. Oil stains on any of the bearings. Just have a look at any operating steam railway. Even if the machine is "clean" when leaving the shed, at the end of the day it needs cleaning again.

Even model railways builders have this problem. Do they have their rolling stock nice and clean, or do they weather them or even add graffiti?

I think we all have this image of Rocket, nice and clean, as if on its first run of the Rainhill trials, or as a clean, non operating, museum exhibit.

I think nice and clean will be the way to go - thanks
