Hi John, I know this is an old post, but I have been away for a while and live in Sydney anyway, just now catching up with the woodcarving posts on this forum. My question is How did you go, as it seems like a very reasonable cost for 8 nights of learning to carve! Cheers, Peter

I completely missed the first post too, and would be interested to know how it went. Great to see someone still instructing/encouraging wood carving.

Well amazingly we have had no takers. I find it hard to get the message out as I love carving so much there must be others out there who would also love to learn.
If your in Melbourne pass on to any that are interested. John

Hi John, I would love to do the course, but being in Darwin is a bit of a disadvantage.

In a town the size of Melbourne there surely is lots of folk who would like to learn a bit about carving.
So how to get the message out there must be the issue.
Here in Hobart they have these adult education programs where a multitude of hobbies/interests etc can be learned over a short term (eg, for 3 weekends). Cost is usually reasonable as well.

I've only just found this post as well. If you plan another, I would be interested, and I'm in Melbourne.

Introduction to Wood Carving. Two weekends, Adult Education course. Was given to me as a birthday present!
Might have run for many months but some paranoid killed it off for liability issues.

If anybody comes up with any secrets about getting the word out/locating like minded craftsmen/carvers...please share???
I like most, truly believe there are woodcarvers out there... I would very much like to start a guild.
Still north of the equator..."Too old to be this useful, Way too useful to be this old"

For what bacame a gift for me, the notice appeared in a community newpaper.
Not lost in the big city newspaper.
One of those "Coming Events" type of entries in a "community calendar."
Oddly, the main reason for not doing such a thing is the fear of looking like a beginner.
Sounds stupid but many, many want to hit the ground as experts with zero experience.
