Great to see the effort you guys are putting in. I hope it is a success for everyone.
Do you know if there is going to be any announcement from the organisers regarding the location of the free parking?

From the sounds of things the off site parking that nt900 refers is most probably old dockyards carpark, further along Nelson Place heading towards Timeball Tower. Only a couple of minutes walk.

From Williamstown Railway Station to the venue is over 500 metres.
If you catch the train to Newport then jump on the 471 bus next to the station it will drop you at the corner of Nelson Pl and Ann st, within 100 metres of the show.
either train or bus are probably not going to be suitable for taking your 3.5metre red cedar slab home
EDIT - just make sure you get on a 471 bus headed for Williamstown, Newport station is an intermediate stop on the route which runs from Sunshine to WilliamstownLast edited by doug3030; 6th September 2018 at 10:45 AM. Reason: additional information

According to google the distance from Williamstown station to the venue is 550m in pretty much a straight line. To my mind much easier than getting off at Newport, finding the bus stop and waiting for the bus. Pretty poor though by the organisers to not be on top of letting patrons know about parking. Hopefully for exhibitors and patrons alike the how runs smoothly

EDIT: sorry, somehow i missed more recent posts
I would not catch the train if your only reason is fear of parking. Anthony has provided details of free parking available. There will be heaps of (paid) parking all along the street down towards the shipyard. Even on busy tourist days this does not fill up. If you are really averse to paying for parking (and unless it is more than $8 it will be cheaper than myki anyway) then you can park in surrounding streets closer than the station (but pay attention to signs).
The only flaw is if you have a trailer... i don't have an answer for that, hopefully the organisers will provide some info...Last edited by John G; 6th September 2018 at 04:36 PM. Reason: I dont think it always shows latest posts

Costs are a very big thing with any show, even a smallish show can cost. I have no idea these days, but I would suggest the actual cost for CT to attend would be between 40K and 60K and probably nearer to the 60K.
I have organised a few industry specific trade shows at Jeff's Shed in Melbourne (Melbourne Exhibition Centre), costs were mind blowing then; early to late 90's.
One thing about shows, is their long tail. This is something that is often not fully accounted for by some people, especially the bean counters prior to a commitment to do a show. The bean counters are fully correct in their view of fiscal restraint and more often than not correct in actual sales from the show.
My view is that many people visit shows with a long term view to purchase when money becomes available, this is fine, but there is a point where the long wait for a sale from a show is not connected to that show; that's life.
With my own personal show experience, if someone has a hot product, then a show exhibition is really the way to enhance sales through the roof. When the Sawstop saw was released, I visited the Melbourne show with the view to see if the hype met with reality. I attended three demonstrations of a sausage getting its skin nicked and the saw blade disappearing with a bang, faster than can be seen with the naked eye in real time.
As a result, my Men's Shed purchased one of these saws and there were plenty of other Men's Shed people there doing exactly the same thing. Not to mention heaps of other punters working out how they could afford one of these units, instead of the others at the show from other exhibitors.
Then there is the other way of selling, by accident.
Last year I went to the Melbourne Show to learn about a possible band saw for my Men's Shed, while waiting for the fella who was halfway through demonstrating the Laguna bandsaw, I perused their wood lathe.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, there was a gentleman from Qld who proffered advice on the bandsaw. I told him thanks but no thanks as the cost was surely going to be way out of my league. "Not to matter," he said, he then asked what I would like to know.
I remember he just quietly started to talk about what it could do and as he delved further and further into what it could do, I started to really think about this machine.
I then started to ask very specific questions, the more I learnt, the more I became worried; this could cost me some serious money. Finally I was introduced to the Victorian rep of their product and got firm pricing. Unfortunately I couldn't really stay to assess the bandsaw, except I wished to see the foot brake working. This I did see, very impressive.
My Men's Shed last year ordered and picked up a bandsaw, it has been wonderful. This was done very close after the show and would have been attributed to the show.
This year, after some more research and meeting up with people who had a Laguna lathe, I took the plunge and ordered a Laguna lathe. As there was ½ a year time lag from the show, I doubt that would have registered with the company flogging these Laguna products. I have also talked with two other people who saw the laguna lathe at last years show in Melbourne; they are both intending to purchase one.
You need people with knowledge of machines on the stand to sell that machinery. If you are coming interstate, then you really do need to bring people with intimate knowledge of what you are exhibiting; those people are not cheap.
Some thoughts.
Mick.

Screenshot taken at 7am on the first day of the show - 3 hours before opening - how much closer should I leave it before trying again?

Well I for one came away impressed, admittedly my expectations weren't high and they were well exceeded. I thought the venue was great although I might be biased living in Williamstown and a really good number and quality of exhibitors.
I bought a Mirka sander, a Gifkins finger joint kit and a couple of holdfasts from Colen Clinton. In addition I will be ordering a tail vice from Terry Gordon and now know that there is a Laguna dealer in Melbourne who can arrange for my resaw king bandsaw blade to be sharpened. I didn't miss Carbatec or Timbecon.
Glad my wife was out when I got home!
