Most of my previous leadlighting has been very curvy, arty-farty......

.... with only a few having ANY straight lines...

... wheras this one...
BDAC94D4-49A9-4994-BDB9-63BDAC6BB7AB.jpg
.... is to be very geometric?
After drawing up a 1:1 template, I was able to make a simple jig to cut the rectangular pieces to the dimensions on the template.

The glass cutting, which is normally quite tedious and frustrating, this time went so quickly that by lunchtime all of the glass has been cut for both doors...

I managed to scrounge some opaque green glass very close to the tile colour...

..... which makes life a lot easier but unfortunately I don’t get my scrounged lead came until the weekend so the leadlighting will now have to wait a few days...... back to domestic chores I guess?a rock is an obsolete tool ......... until you don’t have a hammer!

You've got to love straight lines when it comes to leadlighting Fletty, saves a lot of grinding. I guess you're using extruded lead rather than copper foil?

Thanks Aldav, yes, using lead, my fat fingers never had success with sticky copper foil? Tiffany lamps were an inaccessible goal for me although my daughters got quite competent at it? Years ago I added Tiffany lamps to the ‘unattainable list’ which, up to that point, only included Sam Malloof rocking chairs, inlay and carving? That list now however, has grown considerably

After a few chores and a coffee with MrP, I grabbed a few hours in the shed. I was surprised at how smoothly it all went.
I assembled the first panel in the time honoured way of clamping with battens and horseshoe nails...

... wire brushed, fluxed and soldered one side...

.... then VERY carefully turned it over, soldered the other side and, to justify the red wine I was about to have, held it in place and took a picture for posterity...

It is obviously still very dirty, smeared with flux and requiring more work on the joints but certainly enough to justify a GOOD red wine?a rock is an obsolete tool ......... until you don’t have a hammer!

Very nicely done Alan.
I do like the lead light look. I must hassle SWMBO to crank up the "LL" activity.

Wandered slowly down the steps to the shed late this morning. Glider, Mrs Glider and I, did the 7 Bridges Walk yesterday. We did all 7 bridges in a walk of about 22km!
While standing at the bench and alternately lifting my weight off each leg, I assembled the second panel, soldered both sides, fixed some poor joints on the first panel, instantly ‘aged’ them by blackening the lead and temporarily fitted both into the cabinet.
I’m a very happy fletty...........

Now for for the BIG question, inset the 2 green tiles or not.......?

I can of course cheat and make a second door with tiles.......a rock is an obsolete tool ......... until you don’t have a hammer!

Insert one tile to tie the centre panel in with the doors.

I'd say either 3 tiles down the center panel or none. I really like the look without additional tiles between the doors.

Another vote for none.
Or maybe one, at most, if you must.......

The single tile, high up, pic 2, this gives a more pleasing look to the eye and geometrically draws the eyes to the table top.

one tile, low down in line with the green lights in the doors.
but better I think to flip the doors 180 degrees and have the center tile in line with the higher green light.
BTW
I don't like to say this but the light coloured rail, especially on the left hand door looks naffregards from Alberta, Canada
