    Hi All,

Extremely happy to advise that Cathie has had her heart procedure and it went really well yesterday. She is still recuperating and I am still in caretaker mode - no work in the shed yet. Thanks for all the support and best wishes via phone, email, PM's and posts. It has been fantastic and really appreciate the best wishes from all my friends on the Forum. Still some recovering required but I think we are past the most awkward part. Thanks everyone

    Best Regards

    Keith

Glad to hear that Keith. The date came very quickly (for us not at the coal face) and I was surprised to see your post as I was thinking it was still a couple of weeks away.
All the best for Cathie's speedy recovery and to get back into that walking.

    Hi everyone - I'm back,

Thanks to all those who wished Cathie and me all the best - most appreciated. She is now going quite well. (I am still doing the vacuuming and hanging out the washing - but I am happy to do that).

Back into the shed a bit. I have made up the internal walls of the carriage and added the floor. All just sitting there at the moment as I will need to get my window frames and glazing in place before I do any internal wall cladding. This carriage has 3 compartments and each compartment has 6 seats. Access is via hinged doors on either side of the compartment.

Good to be back and hope everyone is well

    Best Regards

    Keith

Looking good Keith. Glad that you are able to return to the workshop, and keep looking after the young lady(which I am sure you do anyway)

    Hi All,

I have been working on the head, jamb and sill for my carriage windows. Not a real lot to see but pretty time consuming. I cut each item 7mm wider than the frame work so I can add my inner and outer wall cladding (3mm) and will allow a little bit of cleanup and the framing of my windows will be flush with the walls. The head, jamb and sill are glued to the framework.
I have purchased a sheet of 3mm window glass. I will glass cut this to suit the sizes of the windows.

I am making up the sash and rails for the window. I have used my table saw to cut the grooves in the timber to suit my glass. Because the blade on my table saw is 3mm and the glass is 3mm, I have been doing 2 cuts along the length of the timber (timber slightly off centre) to give the groove some clearance on the glass - hope that makes sense.

    Regards

    Keith

    Hi All,

No lawn bowls pennant this weekend so been out in the shed on the carriage.

I have been making up my window components and then fitting the windows into the carriage.

I cut up my timbers with mitre joins. I then cut my glass to suit each individual window. I have learnt with previous glass cutting - only one score and then the glass will break off at the exact correct spot. Multiple scores - even along the same line and I will muck up. I made 12 windows and no tears. The glass cutting went perfectly.

Inserted the glass and then glued my window together. A bit of touch up with timber mate and then I sanded each window to fit each frame section.

My next task is to make the internal window stays. The external stays will be made a bit later on.

    Regards

    Keith

    Morning All,

Spent the last week or so making the carriage doors and then fabricating, glazing and fitting the windows to the doors. I have made the doors so they have a fair clearance to enable them to open and close easily. The photo shows the doors just sitting on the base of the frame - so the clearances are not truly visible until I connect the doors to the framework via the hinges fitted to the carriage framework. Good to get back into the swing of things again. Cathie is going quite well. Has an appointment with the cardiologist this afternoon.

    Regards

    Keith
