That’s a great idea and it would be so easy to make.

You see all kind of strange mods done to tools while looking at Ebay. Saw a rather knocked about rebate plane that got me wondering what task the guy had in mind for it.

it looks as though a previous owner has turned the plane into a "full" bull nose variant

I also like the ever evolving definition of "antique" -- in this case probably circa 1990s.

'E's dropped it, & broke its nose.

From what I can see on the zoomed-up pic, no-one has even bothered to file the fracture smooth. Must have been interesting forcing that tank-bolt into the lever-cap, too, I don't think Record used 3/16 24tpi for their lever-cap screw, did they??

It's an intriguing bit of kit, someone has turned it into a fixed-radius compass plane - I wonder how the radiused piece is attached to the sole? The description leaves a little to be desired, doesn't it?

I suppose as long as the compass sole is detachable, it could be returned to service as a (slightly shorter) rebate plane with a blade added (I've found them pretty much essential to making a plane function), and a fence, but I don't think I'd be induced to pay even the $17 start-price for it, unless that includes postage....

    Cheers,
    IW

    Cheers,
missed most of that, especially the absence of a blade.

the 3/16 24tpi sort of makes it not even worthwhile for the one potential part.

Looks like he has had a particular task in mind for it and no router. Going by the state of the plane there was nothing to loose either. Another point I have just realised is that the nose would be in the way of turning it into a radius plane.
It is a bit cheeky asking any money for it but then that's Ebay.

I got myself Woodworking for Dummies few days ago since I can feel it in my bones that I should learn this stuff somehow. We just transferred to a farm so there's so much things that needs to be repaired or restored. Hope I could get the hang of it soon.

    Default eBay seller's research

I never thought my interest in S&J saws would be referenced in an eBay listing:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/132860701703?ul_noapp=true

Good to see at least one seller is doing a bit of research.

would 20 tpi be an original filing?
or is it more likely that the teeth have been recut?

the closed handle suggests to me a tenon rather than a dovetail saw.

The Vintage Record Abomination from post 2180 has been relisted every two weeks now for the last 5 months; although the ridiculous starting price of $17 has changed to a much more reasonable $40

Yes, saws were sold with 20TPI. From the 1961 catalogue.

I wonder if the 20tpi count included the chunk missing out of the tooth line?
