Detailed plans for building a tail vice
Hi All,
I'm trying to find some plans for constructing a Scandinavian tail vice, but my searching has drawn a blank. I understand that it's all documented in "The Workbench Book" by Landis Scott, but that appears to be out of print (at least everywhere I've looked has it out of stock).
I'm particularly interested in the square carriage frame arrangement employed to reduce racking and counter sagging.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Ta,
Lance

Is this what you are after? The plan links are in the video description though I did not look at that link

A bit pricey, but available.
Hope this helps, Jeff

Thanks Chris,
That's the style. I followed the link, but whilst he has a blog of the build, he doesn't say if he was working form any plans.
I feel like I've scoured the internet, and come up short. The next step if no-one here knows, will be trying to reach out to anyone who has published a tail vise build across various forums and ask if they have plans.

Lance

As above let have installation instructions that have enough information to build a vice from. I don't know if any of their kits are exactly what you are after but have a read:

In addition to Carters workbench videos, the one which Chris has linked...
Here's another with Rob Cosman where you get the chance to see his old bench top upside down
Skip to 31:42 to see it
Good luck with your bench build Lance

David Barron and his thoughts on a tail vise. I have one (of sorts) and it gets used as a vise not in the traditional ways of combining it with dog holes for planing etc but the type of work done on the bench dictates what we use as shown in the second video using no vise at all. I post the second one for interest only as I happened to see it yesterday, it would not work for me but it might for others.

This link covers a build of the Frank Klausz style workbench and has measured drawings. If all else fails I have a copy of the Workbench Book and could scan the vice details pages for you.

Thanks Chris,
I've seen David's video, and interestingly is at the top of my what to build bench. The only downside, for me, is that I would like a real tail vice. Having an understanding of how much is involved with building one will dictate whether I go the whole hog, or like David, use the simpler option of the HNT Gordon vice.
Perfect! Thanks Fuzzie
