    Default Fiddleback Satinwood

Hi all, have four 350mm long quarter sections of satinwood. They are roughly 90 degrees between the planed surfaces and have a natural third side. Flat side measurements are 90x90,70x80,70x50 and 70x35. Have been cut for many years and collectively weigh 8.5kg. Would make pen blanks or something similar. A few cracks and checks as seen in photos. Asking $15 a piece or all for $50+ post.
    Cheers Wayne20190702_105005.jpg20190702_105104.jpg20190702_105113.jpg

By Satinwood do you mean Pittosporum ? If so which species?
    Interested in 2 wider blocks 90 x90 & 70 x 80 if not too cracked.

Fiddle? All I can see are saw marks. Can you plane a side to see any fiddle?

Saw marks are not present on these pieces. Two planed and one natural edges. Will post some more pics. Much confusion around this species Euge. Now known as Nematolepis Squamea, formerly Phebalium squameum. Locally known as Tallowood or Lancewood to add extra problems.

Thanks for the clarification & extra pics.
Can I take the two larger blocks please? Post to 3820 please and advie payment method by PM. Thanks.

I've some as milled boards (ex Ottway, called Satinbox there). I have always liked this wood for its creamy colour and fine texture and nice smell when cut.

    Thanks again Somefly. Euge

I have a suspicion that it is also referred to as "Cheesewood" here in Tas.

Cheesewood is Pittosporum bicolor but also called tallowood in some literature which adds to the confusion.

Hope your bandsaw is sharp Geoff. Probably the hardest of any of our Tassie timbers.

Thankyou, that's handy to know. I usually rank the woods in hardness priority through the bandsaw. Get as much of the softer stuff done before tackling the more abrasive timbers like Blackwood, etc. Looks like it will be a while until I get to it now, hyper extended my problematic left knee again. A couple of weeks of frustration on the sidelines for me.
