I wish you both the very best of good fortunes.
I have been a caregiver just twice now, so far.
It's a sad path to travel.

Sorry to hear about your sad and difficult circumstances.
Life can dish out some daunting challenges especially as we get older.
And it looks like you’ve got more than your fair share at present.
I hope the situation improves and you find a way to stay connected with woodwork.

Wishing you both the very best fortunes for the future.

Sadly what you both have been going through is not unique and is something we all should consider setting up "what if" plans for. "Time and tide wait for no man." maybe an over used quote but it is so true once one gets caught up in the major health issues hurdy gurdy. Easy to say but more difficult to adhere to some discipline in staying on top of those ever increasing "acquisitions" we all treasure and find difficult to part with.

Perhaps a small Byrnes Table Saw, Sander and model making is in your future??

Men's Sheds offer such a tremendous and valuable resource to give men access to workshop facilities when their circumstances change.

Evan, best of luck to you both.

There's not much more to say that has not already been said.

Please check in on this funny-farm occasionally. Your insight is always welcome.

    Cheers

Everyone is vastly overestimating my mirth, humour and/or intellect (or lack thereof!). I'm just a guy.

Tell you what, having a big sickness so close both focuses and frys the old circuits. My mind is boggled and can't think straight.

I took myself off to the studio last night and finished off a job (two belt displays). I hope to be able to do the commercial work still, its easy and enjoyable. Trivial really. They know what they want! Took 5 hours of bumbling and staring at my lathe....

MY HOPE is to lease a small hole-in-the-wall shop. I found one at an industrial zone not far from here, 80sq.m, and might buy that. The repayments are stupid-small (light industrial here in Canberra seems to be dying horribly)..... I can set up a workshop there. My son is interested, as is my daughters boyfriend. Might start a REAL business!.... ???? hmmmmm..... (if anything, its cheaper than renting a tiny space at Kennards for storage!)

Though, I do intend doing a lot of "small work". I've my scrollsaw and hand tools. I can make a mini-bench like Ive seen others here make. I've the corded power tools and a PARF tabletop maker so I can get good square cuts.....

I'll need to bribe my new neighbours to be nice to me about my noise

I wish you and your wife the best Evan.
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.

Maybe Evan, we just like your generosity & humanity .... and the amusing / interesting way you think and express yourself.
That's it I think. Please keep us posted how you go in the new downsized set up. We ALL wish you and your wife well.

Have been a hoarder as I now recognise - collected more wood than i could deal with in the next 10 years - some hard to replace 18-20" hoop pine other 1950s hardwood studs -yes have used all the wider roof beams -tables of course still have ? what do I do with 10" x10" redgum post" hard to let go of -given at least 70 years air drying & it was clearly secondhand at the time. If need be expect a freebee offer of such things. Waiting to see what the next house needs. timber/firewood?
Should I do a Shed will also be the odd INTERESTING turning blank etc.
    Will see how it go's.
Stay tuned - could be good for a local.

Not a good thing to go through with Brain issues like Blastoma etc,I have only just lost a brother so I know what you are going through.

Isn't it incredible that I share this information with a bunch of woodworkers?

The other day I had Fletty call past/in to collect some timbers, plus a few days before that I had a good long talk on the phone with FenceFurniture. Ive also spoken with Ian, plus SMS.

These blokes genuinely care. They spent time listening, telling stories, passing on wisdom and understanding.

I am in debt to all of you. Thank you for the messages and notes, everyone.

If you ever wonder if it helps - hell yes. Yes it does.

Such a simple craft is rammed packed with genuinely kind and genuinely human people.

Small news.... today I took out a small 1.5x3m storage at StorageKing. Good price too. Moved a huge.... and bloody UNENDING pile of my Extra Special Reserve timbers and box after box after box of veneers and pen blanks.

There must be 10 FRUIT CRATES of penblanks and even more of veneers.... they kept coming OUT!!!! (like my hair!!!).... there is STILL MORE!!!

BTW, if you wish to pick the bones, Im selling some lumps and veneers on the forum over the next 24 hours. African Walnut, Coach and 4 massive crates of burl veneers from Anton Gerners studio.

Hi All. Plans haven't worked out so well! I'm going to have a monster sell-off of a fair bit of stuff....

I'll pop it all on the forum as a complete list, then put up each item so I don't flood everyone or the listings.

    There will be:

    • Giant stacks of eye-popping timbers
    • Box-after-box and crate-after-crate of eye-popping veneers
    • Big machinery (air cleaner, table saw, Lathe, drill press, lots of Festool gear (sanders)
    • Japanese chisels and Kanna
    • Giant stack of MDF sheets
    • Zillions of Incra things
    • Grinders and accessories (CBN wheels, chisel sharpening jigs)

My space is severely limited, so I need to rationalise back. I'll be doing A LOT MORE by hand from now on!!!!!!

Thanks for all the feedback and warm wishes. Unfortunately for you lot, while I'll be scaling back on my production, you aren't rid of me yet!!!!
