    Default More small boxes

Finished at last after too many interruptions.

    No 1 is red cedar
    No 2 is black bean
    No 3 is black wattle
All have threaded lids and each one is a slight variation from the previous box. The lid on the last one was cut off below the feature lines. The largest box (the centre box) is 75mm high and 58mm diameter, and finished with UBeaut glow.

These two are twins, not quite identical twins, but close. Made from silver ask with walnut and silver ash lines. The vertical feature is some of my home made veneer banding. These two are 60mm x 60mm. The threads were done with inland rosewood inserts. The two top are interchangeable.

What pretty little boxes...do we still call round containers boxes?

    Hi AB,
If you mean, what finish, it is Glow applied as a friction polish while still on the lathe.

Yes Jim, I did mean what finish.
I have not seen "Glow" finish before. Presume it is a wax type of finish.
Remember seeing the technician at Hobart Uni in the furniture design course spay lacquering a stack of small containers about the size of yours but much plainer. He had the pressure of the gun turned right down and the spray pattern adjusted so it was like an airbrush. It looked like a fiddly exercise.

AB, Glow is a UBeaut product and is based on shellac. Can recommend it for small stuff on the lathe. Another new product is Aussie Oil will give you similar results. Both are applied with a rag, preferably flannelette. My wife gets it for me from the op shop. They sell it as dog blankets.

Cheers. We are very familiar with flannelette down here in Tassie. I think it is the emblem of Tasmania. When I go to the casino I always wear my flannelette tie.
Agree with Brainstrust the last/bottom 2 are exceptional.

I agree with Hughie, Jim is consistently consistent with the quality of his work, even his "stuff ups."
