Default Southern Tas get together - Spring '19

    Hi all southern southerners,

Spring has sprung, and we should get together again! We all had such a good time earlier in the year, so perhaps we should catch up over a BBQ lunch this time.

    Date: Sunday 29th September
    Time: 12:30 onwards
Address: Margate, Tas (Like last time, I'll PM my address to those who have expressed an interest in attending closer to the day.)
Lunch: I will supply sausages, bread and a couple of salads. I also have plenty of tea and coffee. If you'd like to bring something to share, I won't stop you, but no pressure.
Who: Anyone and everyone is welcome. If you're interested in wood working, at whatever level or style, we would love to have you there. Partners are most welcome too.

I'm looking forward to catching up with those who attended last time, and hopefully meet some new local woodworkers too.

    Kind regards,
    Lance

    Hi Lance/Maja,

Thank you for the invite. Happy to bring a salad. Will be in touch before the date.

    Cheers Yvan

    Hi All,
I have been a forumite for some years, but gave it a miss when I discovered that the URL that I had was not secure. Then just recently discovered a secure version, so I am here again.

And "here" is not too far from the aforementioned gathering site. In fact, I drive past probably twice a week. I even lived in the town until 1954. House was surrounded by apple trees, milk was delivered by the Smith family. Tanners had the bakery.

    So, if a self-taught owner-builder of a timber framed/lined/clad shack is allowed ......? ....?

Everyone who has expressed an interest in coming should have received a PM from me with my address and phone number. If you haven't let me know and I'll try again. If you've not yet put your hand up, but are keen to come along, just shoot me a PM, and I'll pass on my details.

I'm half way through rehabilitating some hand saws, so why not bring a couple of your saws with you (if you have any), and we can do a multi-saw trial or sorts. I know I'd be interested to feel how different examples cut. Other than that, bring anything else you thing is of interest so show.

I look forward to seeing you all next Sunday.

    Kind regards,
    Lance

We'll be sorry not to have you there Mike, but hopefully we will do something in late summer or early Autumn. Do you have any photos of your dingy in the water?

    Kind regards,
    Lance

    Hi Lance, tarwood here,
Yes I will be there, and I will bring my preferred snags etc, etc. I have to stay away from regular items.

    Oooroo.

    Hi All,

Today is the day, and for those of you who've not been here before, there is plenty of room in the shed and house, so if the weather concerns you, don't let it.

I look forward to seeing you all later today at 12:30.

    Kind regards,
    Lance

    Unfortunately no photos this time.

We had a great collection of saws on the bench, My saws (some with and some without teeth), Yvan's auction wins and Tarwood's rummage through his shed. Adam brought his saw-set for me to set my newly toothed hand saw, but weren't able to do it on the day as the sausages would have been a little crispy.

We retreated inside to the fireplace for lunch where leisurely discussion was had about building houses, decks, firewood, stairs etc.

All in all, Maja and I enjoyed ourselves, especially catching up with Adam and Yvan again, and it was good to meet you Rod. Mike, your absence was felt, so hopefully we'll get to catch up with you next time.

    Till next time
    Lance
